More and more, Northern Michigan is showing it can produce some of the best volleyball talent in the state.

During the 2025 prep season, a number of freshmen and sophomores from the northern area of the Lower Peninsula put on outstanding displays.

Here's Part 1 of our look at some of the bright young talent in the North.

Ava Anderson, So. OH Suttons Bay

Anderson brought a lot of power to the net, both up front and from the back row. She has a very upright swing that allows her to follow through with a lot of torque, putting a lot of heat on the ball. As Anderson keeps adding new dimensions to her swing, her kill totals are going to pile up fast.

[player_tooltip player_id='895470' first='Hailey' last='Bober'], So. DS/L Johannesburg-Lewiston/Avalanche

Bober was relentless in her play in the back row this past fall season. You definitely couldn't question her effort, as she always left it all on the court. Bober shows a lot of determination and eagerness, and she's constantly putting in the work to get better in the back row.

Brooklyn Boughner, So. S Onaway

Boughner looked good in a lead role for Onaway this fall, putting up over 500 assists while adding over 300 digs and nearly 100 kills. She also had a competitive serve that helped shift momentum. Boughner did a great job of getting the best out of her hitters and received All-State honors in D4 for her play.

Promise Bouwmeester, Fr. S Traverse City Christian

Promise Bouwmeester was a combo player that did a lot with each opportunity she had. Playing two positions can be a big ask for a freshman, but her focus and calm made her look more like an upperclassman. Bouwmeester is in line for a big breakout season next fall.

Scarlet Bouwmeester, So. MH Traverse City Christian

Bouwmeester was a middle that could heat up quickly and rack up big kill numbers. She had over 200 on the season with a high finishing rate. She also approached 50 aces and 50 blocks while putting up over 125 digs as well. There's a lot of good things about Bouwmeester's game. She earned All-State honors in D4 this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='782164' first='Isabelle' last='Brown'], Fr. OH Cadillac/FaR Out

It's not surprising to see a Cadillac freshman step up in a big way. Brown did a little bit of everything this fall, being among the team leaders in nearly every stat. She had 309 kills, 443 digs, 518 assists, 119 aces, and 24 blocks. Just imagine how much more productive she will get each year? She received All-State honors in D1 this year, as well as All-Prep Dig honors in D1.
