Players We’re Watching In 17 Premier Red/Blue At Central Zones

We're helping to break through the noise and spend a little time on each and every division we can for Central Zones this weekend. Her broad shoulders, heavy arm and solid footwork make her a tough person to defend against, yet she still needs a little development on her approach—-she sometimes gets caught hitting the ball on her way down. No matter; that can be fixed with faster footwork and some other strength and conditioning in the weight room. With accurate location, quick feet and a smooth athleticism to her, Miss Whaley can do all of the things a 5-1 offense requires of their one setter. She also defends her position well, making her even that much more marketable for the next level. I have to keep reminding myself when I watch her play that she's only a sophomore, and plays up on the 17-1 at NCISVBC. The skill set is there, the athleticism is on point, and her high volleyball IQ is regularly on display. Her abilty to be a six-rotation outside is a nice departure from the norm in this (or any) class—-too many players these days are so position-specific that they're stuck doing one thing well ONLY, limiting their recruiting potential. She can be the three rotation DS, an outlet outside for a smaller school, and even do a little setting when called upon. Her footwork is so fast, smooth and natural that it appears inherent to her DNA. Her hands are high and locates the ball accurately for her hitters. Although the tempo looks a little high for my taste her training shows through in every in- and out-of-system situation—-every set is the same to every location every time.
