LOUIS -&nbsp;</strong>Iowa clubs represented themselves well during this past weekend's Nike President's Day Classic at the Americas Center. Most, if not all, age groups saw teams from the state competing in Gold Bracket play.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>That success occurs when talented individuals stand out on well-connected squads. Those athletes can't do it alone, but their teams need them to deliver big plays in important moments.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Let's look back at those performances, position by position. I'm reminded of that frequently with her being our daughter's teammate on Rockets 15R. They were teammates during their 12U year as well, and Kirk's growth has been tremendous. It helped her become just one of three freshmen to earn all-state honors in 2025. She recorded 397 kills (.235), 301 digs and 45.0 blocks in leading Marion to the state tournament. Kirk has continued her ascent as a player this club season. Her efficiency at the pin continues to improve, while the same can be said about her performance in the back row. She's continued that growth this club season if what we saw at the 2026 Nike President's Day Classic in St. Louis is any indication. Moench was operating through six rotations as an outside hitter at an event where her Impact 15-1 Elite team finished fifth among 32 teams in the Premier Red division. She stands out as a technically sound volleyball player. She's powerful with a heavy swing for her age at the pin. Athletic with lateral quickness, Moench also shines in the back row. I didn't get to see her in person this past prep campaign, so I looked forward to watching her at the 2026 Nike President's Day Classic in St. Louis. Tegeler did not disappoint with her performance in the Gateway City. The Northeast junior helped Select 17 Mizuno finish fifth out of 32 squads in the open division. Playing six rotations as an outside hitter, Tegeler's overall skills and technical soundness were noticeably improved from a year ago. Undersized for a pin, the Cedar Rapids Kennedy junior makes up for a lack of traditional height and long arms at the position by being an explosive athlete with an impressive vertical leap. She can hang in the air, get on top of the ball and generate power on the attack. Those traits along with timing also make her a threat when throwing up the block. Athleticism and agility aid her in playing in the back row, too. The Northeast High product appeared to be taking the next step in her development that saw her register 139 kills (.248), 67 digs and 23.0 blocks as a sophomore this past season. Mullin is a good athlete that jumps well and can move quickly around the court. She flows well during points and a good feel for the game has her in proper position to make plays. Mullin limits mistakes and takes advantage of opponent's weaknesses. To say it was an impressive initial scouting opportunity would be an understatement. Largent was hitting outside and playing six rotations for a United 16-1 Elite Timmerman team that finished second in the open division at the event. Largent stands out the most for her leaping ability and power at the pin. She's consistent on the attack and does well in reading the block. Largent throws up an effective block and defends well in the back row when she gets in a groove.
