Day one at the Mideast Qualifier in Indianapolis is in the books for 16 Open and up, and there were quite a few athletes I loved watching today. Here are six of them that should garner a ton more attention in the recruiting process.

It's one thing to do well at the 4A high school level. It's completely another to own the middle in the 16 Open division at MEQ's on day one. Paityn is a solid choice for either middle position at the next level on both offense and defense. I FINALLY got to see her terminate behind the setter, and her court vision helps score points regularly for her squad. On the block, she takes up space and has no true weaknesses in any part of her game.

Already committed to Morehead State, one can see why immediately on first viewing. Long, lean and quick, Ella's used as the right side on a pin-forward roster. She's a problem for opposing attackers, as her length presses across the net taking away multiple options regularly. When attacking, she hits at her max jump, and can terminate from either pin with ease.

With upper body strength that rivals no one, Arielle is exceptional at powering through weaker blockers on zero tempo balls. I like her defensively more than most middles in this class; her shoulder strength helps set strong blocks and presses well, taking angles away from all hitters. That brute strength, combined with her high volleyball IQ, will turn her into a D1 middle in no time.

A sophomore on a team of juniors (she plays for Boiler Juniors 17 Gold), Jada is a spitfire of an outside that is a primary-passing six-rotation beast. Although undersized, Jada's ability to put balls away and make regular differences in all aspects of the game make her indispensable for whatever roster she's a part of. Also from a family of volleyballers, Jada's inherent intelligence in volleyball seems innate—-very few her age in her position can do what she does, as she keeps her squad in matches longer than your average 5'7” outside.

Able to play either pin at the next level, Lyla's presence on PHP's 16U squad is essential to their success at MEQ's. Also from a volleycentric family (older sister plays at Purdue), Lyla understands the work ethic and relentlessness required to play grown woman ball, and already brings it with a pace and force that's just not normal in her graduating class.

One thing I completely found out while watching Eva play today—-I am WAY off on her ranking. With size, strength and an intimidation factor that just doesn't come easily from middles in Indiana, Miss Stokes was an x-factor in the middle when her fellow pin-hitting teammates struggled to terminate against bigger competition. Smart with her shots and strong when she needs to be, she's an M2 that excels on zero-tempo balls that can vary in space from the setter——allowing her to hit all angles equally, adding to the difficulty in defending her on every point. She was a pleasure to watch today, and easily raised her stock 100 spots with her performance in a tough 17 USA division.
