Frontcourt physicality flourished in Davenport.

We're always eager to see which position groups stand out most at Prep Dig tournaments and showcases. After opening-day pools of the Prep Dig Quad Cities Quest, pin hitters were an immediate discussion topic. However, these outside attackers weren't the only athletes turning heads in the Iowa Select gym.

It's time to venture into the middle. Our all-17s/18s all-tournament team already delved into some dominant middle blockers, but we have several more names to bring to the forefront. The commanding net presence we saw at the Prep Dig Quad Cities Quest was something to behold.

These players helped set the standard.

Iowa Select 17 Mizuno's championship-winning lineup isn't complete without this D1-bound middle blocker. Ramler is an electric terminator in the middle and has made her mark on the prep side with Western Dubuque. She gets off the floor quickly, has a ton of range on the slide, and will hustle in transition to make herself available. Illinois State has a good one coming from the Class of 2027.

DuPage Elite 17 United's run to the podium was anchored by fearless attackers who will swing away at any set. Slowikowski embraced this mantra at last weekend's event and didn't need a perfect set to do damage. She makes savvy mid-air adjustments and has incorporated some well-placed tip shots into her arsenal. So, even if Slowikowski isn't bringing the constant heat, she's always a scoring threat.

If you had to name the biggest surprise team of the Quad Cities Quest, Chicago Elite 17 Nike is a good candidate. Blomquist was an essential part of the effort, particularly as 17 Nike clawed to a 2-1 start in pool play. The DePaul College Prep junior provided infectious energy along the net and churned out 17 Nike's most efficient individual performances in Davenport. Aside from the numbers on a box score, Blomquist's positive block touches helped Chicago Elite stay alive in some thrilling marathon rallies. Her team took full advantage.

Add another one to the Chicago tab. Chicago Elite 17 National joined its 17 Nike counterpart in Pool B of the Quad Cities Quest, and Wren wasted no time establishing herself in the frontcourt. She overwhelmed opposing blockers with her power and sky-high contact point. Moreover, Wren makes full use of her enviable length to smother attackers in the blocking phase. The middle blocker position was an obvious bright spot for our Chicago-area entrants.

Our tour of Iowa One's front row continues. 17U Aly featured a wide array of exceptional attackers, and Zekeh added to the collective highlight tape in Davenport. She carved indefensible angles in front of the setter and boasted a large attacking window on the quick. Zekeh's quick footwork put her in ideal spots to become a playmaker, lifting Iowa One into bracket contention in a sea of Iowa Select juggernauts.

Bring on the Class of 2028. We've covered some of Iowa Select 16 Mizuno's quick, springy pin hitters, but Mussmann brings the length to complement this group. One-on-one chances turned into sure kills for this Davenport Central star. Termination is only part of the story for Mussmann, who has also flourished as an elite net defender. She led the Davenport Central blocking ledger last fall and brings the same influence with a loaded 16 Mizuno group.

Iowa Select 18 Black gets some of its best frontcourt firepower from the Class of 2028. It's an unconventional strategy in an age group loaded with 2026s this year, but Hughes makes the ascent worthwhile. The Rockridge High School standout fits right in with her 18s crew and brings an incredible medley of burst and explosiveness in the front row. Her pin-to-pin agility also helped 18 Black close its physical blocks, making this one of the best defensive squads at the Quest.

Stateline Pride's top squads have mixed and matched age groups, allowing us to give a shoutout to the Class of 2029. Schumacher climbs to SLPVC 17-1 and is clearly getting a head start in her development. She connects well with her Stateline setters, allowing Schumacher to capitalize on all her in-system opportunities. The Westville freshman has set a high bar after putting up nearly triple-digit kills in her debut prep season last fall. Her club tenure should offer similar returns.
