Six MEQ Indianapolis Day One Afternoon Sensations

The sensational performances across the Indianapolis Convention Center carries on in the afternoon through the evening. These six especially made their marks.    Bryant has a steady approach and swing at the net. Her cross shots are tough to dig up. Bryant can even take some big swings from the back row on pipes. She needs some work on her accuracy on back row shots, but will get it down with more practice. Bryant also does a good job hustling after balls. Bryant said the club team switches between the 5-1 and 6-2 formations so it's important for her to work with the other setter and consistency helps there.     Coyle (pictured) delivered tough, hard jump serves to keep opponents out of system. She provides nice backup at the net and dug up some hard cross shots. She did a better job anticipating balls as the game progressed. Coyle said working on first touches has paid off for the 17 Select teams. Coyle said drills moving back and forth to different targets on the court is one way that's helped.     Hickman is a nice six-rotation player. She goes after balls with great effort and can take big swings from all six positions on the court. The club team is trying to take full advantage of her versatility. Hickman said she's been working on her shot selections and trying to become more dependable on the court to help Upperman and 17 Black.     Hobbs ran the offense with efficiency for 17 Grant. She can do the back set and consistently sends balls back toward the net. Hobbs is an aggressive server and mixes in deceptive set-overs. Hobbs said it's been vital to learn what every hitters wants and working with the other setter since many of the players have not played together before.     Kays uses her size well to affect things at the net on both sides. Kays is great on the ones and is not afraid to shove balls to corners. She gets on top of balls to put a lot of power into them. Kays reads hitters well with her aggressive play at the net. Kays forms solid double blocks and makes nice digs. Kays credited her teammates for pointing out where to hit balls.     Nuhic executes the offense with precision for the 17 Elite Black. Nuhic's communication with her teammates is evident on each play. Nuhic can adjust well to first touches even when the team is out of system. She is coachable and puts balls in her hitters' power zones. Nuhic backs up the net well and records sound first touches. She is a hustler on the court and forms nice walls on double blocks at the net. Nuhic also sends across tough line drive serves. Nuhic said her coaches have talked to her about the importance of leadership at the setter spot and she's taken on the role with authority.
