<p>Webster County head coach Amy Martinez founded the club for this season in Providence to allow area players to continue developing during the offseason. The Vipers just concluded the season with a tough 4-20, but winning the final game of the Commonwealth Cup in Madisonville over the weekend. However, this is the start of the process with the team motto of, "Winners are not people who never fail, but people who never quit" as stated on the team Facebook page.</p>

<p>The team comprised itself of a combination of Webster County and Crittenden County players. Crittenden County assistant coach Addy Kirby led the team and Leah Nunn assisted her. Webster County finished a school record 22-7 last fall driving to the 2nd Region semifinals while Crittenden County won the 5th District for the eight straight season, finishing 8-15 on the season. Webster County knocked off Crittenden County, 3-0 (25-8, 25-16, 25-18) in the 2nd Region quarterfinals for the first region tournament wins since driving to the region championship in 2021. Webster County last won the 5th District championship over region power Henderson County in 2020.</p>

<p>Webster County juniors Jenna Mahurin and Taylor Lacket handled the libero/defensive specialist roles with Crittenden County sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='966297' first='Maddie' last='Hearell'] handling the setting duties. Webster County junior [player_tooltip player_id='966291' first='Arely' last='Martinez'] hit from the outside and played defensive specialist with freshman teammate Addyson Ries hitting from the opposite side and also playing defensive specialist. Webster County junior [player_tooltip player_id='932846' first='Jayleigh' last='Hill'] and Crittenden County freshman [player_tooltip player_id='966299' first='Grayson' last='Travis'] gave the team options in the middle and Rocket junior [player_tooltip player_id='932849' first='Braelyn' last='Merrill'] gave the team a good option on the outside.</p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Merrill (pictured) brings a versatile hitting presence at all six positions on the court. Kirby said she consistently puts pressure on opponents with a strong arm swing and quick decision making. Kirby added Merrill has a high energy and intense presence on the court. Kirby also noted Merrill continues to strengthen the mental part of the game and gain more confidence on the floor.</p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Hill's presence at the net is noticeable at the net, consistently disrupting hits and tips from opponents. Kirby said Hill is a strong hitter in the middle and shows great court awareness. Kirby said Hill is a strong server, constantly targeting weak zones from behind the serving line. Kirby praised Hill for adding to her offensive versatility with more aggressive play hitting from the outside and right side.</p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Kirby said Hearell puts out a strong mental game and high volleyball IQ each time she steps on the court. Kirby praised Hearell's composure under pressure and consistency with her smart situational decisions. Kirby also said outside of the setter spot, Hearell brings a lot of discipline on defense. Kirby praised Hearell's ability to read hitters and consistency with first touches. Kirby said Hearell is developing her offensive presence at the setter spot by adding in more tips and swings.</p>

Kirby said the team can count on her to make consistent first touches in both the front and back rows. Kirby also praised her communication and positive mindset on the court. Kirby even noted Martinez has progressed with her on-court aggression.</p>
