Hoosiers At GJNCs: 15 American Preview

Even with the beginning of GJNCs only a month away, we're still taking the time to list as many Indiana-based teams and players that have qualified for our end-of-club-season nationals. Every few years Indianapolis hosts them, so it makes sense on the sheer number of teams from the Hoosier State that have qualified. Here are six players to watch in the 15 American division, and all have their own special set of skills that make them stand out from many.    For years now, HSE has produced a ton of tall, athletic volleyball players that can do a little bit of everything on the volleyball court. Stick around at their open gyms, and you can find a kid that fits what you need. Insert Blakely, a long and tall M2 that hits with purpose and strength. Even though she's not over 6' tall, she still has the ability to defend the net well with her length, while also contributing offensively for her Rev squad. As she matures, I'd be interested to find out how much right side she can play (as listed in her profile), as this might be her future position if all things remain equal with her high school positional depth charts.     When you say Roncalli, you say libero. Callie is yet another in a long line of high-end, Division-1-capable floor defenders from Roncalli that can direct the defensive positioning like an additional coach on the court. With active feet, a calm platform and exceptional read-and-react skills, Callie is the future of Roncalli defenders, and should be seen as such as her career progresses.     Although her profile says she's a setter AND a right side, I'm looking at her with recruiting lenses and calling her a full-time setter. Smaller than some in this position and this class, Kylie certainly doesn't play like it, and can run an offense with ease and smoothness not normally seen in this class. I like the well-trained footwork to get to every ball, the strong hands that can set any ball from any position on the court, and her innate ability to find the right hitter in the right situation regularly. Miss Reed is a fun one to watch, and has a solid career in front of her as a high-end setting recruit in this class.     I know her nickname is “bangs” because of her hair, but after watching her play, you'll be convinced it's “bangs” because of the pace she puts on the ball from pretty much anywhere on the court. The ball sounds a little different coming off of her hand, and can terminate at will because of the sheer pace she puts on the ball. Relentless in her energy and love of this game, Abby will be a fun and exciting addition to any roster she's a part of because of that relentlessness. She's athletic, fast and has a never-ending motor, making her one of the better choices on the outside in this class.     The commitment and athleticism shown by Miss Wilson is what always stands out to me every time I see her play. No, she's not over 6', but to be that athletic and raw, all while beating opponents with her jump and transition speed, shows this author that the future is bright for Miss Wilson. Driving an hour and a half one way to volleyball practice just means THAT much more to the kid that's doing it, and the sacrifice she's giving to the sport does not go unnoticed.     More accomplished on the beach with her partner, [player_tooltip player_id='889252' first='Callie' last='Stephenson'], Aubree is an exceptional six-rotation “control outside” that rarely makes errors on floor defense and serve receive while also being an effective outside hitter in club ball. Because of her all-around prowess, Aubree could be anything from a three-rotation DS at a larger school to a six-rotation outside at a smaller school and anything in between. No matter what she chooses to be, she'll excel at it, as her work ethic to get this far in her playing career (both indoor and out) is rare to see in this class.
