It wouldn't be a club season without a few surprises along the way.

We've spent the past couple of days highlighting Nebraska's Class of 2028, which will begin its collective recruiting journey on that landmark June 15th threshold. The Great Plains Region will feature a vast pool of recruitable juniors-to-be, especially with so many 2028s making considerable gains during this year's club season.

Those individual gains have yielded all-around team success, too. Today's Class of 2028 feature is panning out to a team-based scope--while also crediting the athletes who have engineered these surprisingly prosperous campaigns.

Nebraska Elite 16 Flames

Nebraska Elite has wielded plenty of depth at the 16s level, and 16 Flames has brought the heat.

Late-season triumphs have rolled in for this under-the-radar Nebraska Elite operation. 16 Flames reached Gold contention in SLC's 16 Liberty division, building on several big outings against fellow Nebraska foes. That has brought a host of new 2028 stars into focus at the right time.

Lillian Wong, Ella Mitchell, and Ava Owen are just a few of the players who have surfaced in our player database after this 16 Flames resurgence. Expect many more to reach the spotlight before Orlando beckons for AAU Nationals.

[program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last=''] 16 Black

2026 has been a year of retribution for VCNebraska 16 Black, which came tantalizingly close to qualifier triumphs as 15s last year. Sealing the deal has been the jumpstart for big-time recruiting momentum.

A trip to USAV Nationals will add to the highlight tape for dynamic, versatile athletes like Braylyn Wood, Alexis Valish, and Meredith Masters. It also helps to have Eva Gutz, Adeline Hunnicutt, and Lindyn Stutzman feeding these attackers with pinpoint passing and distribution.

It's all coming together for VCN's 16s.

[program_tooltip program_id='428717' first='Nebraska' last='ONE'] 16 Titanium

We've loved watching this Titanium group develop and mesh over the past two seasons, all while competing with the nation's best at the Open level.

[program_tooltip program_id='428717' first='Nebraska' last='ONE'] 16 Titanium was back on the Open grind at last month's Windy City Qualifier, giving us a stellar glimpse at the next generation of talent in the gym. The team has an elite ball control unit anchored by [player_tooltip player_id='774698' first='Taryn' last='Weigel'], [player_tooltip player_id='575063' first='Aniston' last='Bartunek'], and [player_tooltip player_id='774648' first='Camryn' last='Brandt']. This trio has also seen big matches on the high school stage, adding to their recruiting stock in the 2028 hierarchy.

Titanium terminators are finding their stride, too. [player_tooltip player_id='740823' first='Reagan' last='Becker'] and [player_tooltip player_id='774703' first='Maisey' last='McCarty'] have garnered recent mentions through our season coverage. [player_tooltip player_id='753343' first='Ella' last='Peterson'], [player_tooltip player_id='774702' first='Bailey' last='Landon'], and [player_tooltip player_id='774700' first='Mya' last='Fiscus'] add to the firepower and are ideal representatives for Nebraska's small-town scene.

Omaha Fusion

Fusion still lingers in our minds after a fruitful showing at the GPR Bid Tournament.

This unique 16s lineup is a branch off of Nebraska Juniors and is one of the club's best units. [player_tooltip player_id='827611' first='Payton' last='Palmer'] and [player_tooltip player_id='958731' first='Norah' last='Todd'] have flourished as a can't-miss middle blocker tandem from the Omaha-area prep scene. They've connected well with [player_tooltip player_id='698108' first='Bergan' last='Pohlman'], [player_tooltip player_id='958730' first='Sophi' last='Junior'], and the rest of the Fusion gems who handle first and second contacts.

Best of all, we'll get to see this group battle at GJNC in the 16 American division. Keep close tabs on this one.

[program_tooltip program_id='428728' first='River' last='City Jrs'] 16 Navy

Let's check in on River City's top 16s unit.

Perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that 16 Navy is back to its winning ways on the Great Plains Region tour. Still, this talented team just nabbed a 17/18s championship at the Nebraska Showdown and reached the Mizuno Midwest Challenge podium. There's a lot to like with this team's track record.

16 Navy boasts the must-see athletes to back up those wins. [player_tooltip player_id='562301' first='Darriana' last='Damper'] has been a seamless addition to the starting lineup on the left side. This position remains a wholesale strength with [player_tooltip player_id='774675' first='Ariana' last='Rhode'], [player_tooltip player_id='753332' first='Taylor' last='Tresemer'], and [player_tooltip player_id='774683' first='Tessa' last='Heidemann'] returning to the starting rotation. Finally, [player_tooltip player_id='774682' first='Althea' last='Brodersen'] and [player_tooltip player_id='774678' first='Jenna' last='Ferris'] have found the right combinations while running the offense.

AAU Nationals will be a perfectly timed test for [program_tooltip program_id='428728' first='River' last='City Jrs'].
