Setting the Standard: Meet Nevada’s Rising 2030 Setters

Unlike quarterbacks, today's setter also has to excel defensively. It is not optional anymore, it is a requirement. Setters are leaders, decision-makers, and the middle connection between every position on the court. They need high volleyball IQ, poise under pressure, communication skills, and the ability to make everyone around them better. Nevada's Class of 2030 already has a group of young setters beginning to show those qualities early. We got the chance to learn more about some of the upcoming setters in this class. I've grown to love the position because I love making plays and opportunities for my teammates to kill the ball.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>What goals do you have for yourself going into high school?<br></em></strong>My goal as I move to high school, other than maintain good academics, is to perfect my setting accuracy, jump setting, increase my vertical, and also work on my passing and defense. I also love how fast-paced and competitive it is, and how much communication and trust it takes.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>What goals do you have for yourself going into high school?</em></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Going into high school, my goals are to continue growing as both a player and a teammate, work hard academically, and hopefully play volleyball at a high level throughout high school. I fell in love with the position because I enjoy being able to run the offense, make quick decisions, and help set my teammates up for success. Something that made me fall in love with setting was the leadership aspect of it. Setting allows me to connect further with my teammates and build strong individual relationships on and off the court.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>What goals do you have for yourself going into high school?</em></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>One goal I have for myself in high school is to make one of the teams at Bishop Gorman High School and earn the opportunity to set for that team. I love how calm and composed she stays throughout a match.
