We're not done yet.

Our Kansas/Missouri coverage is ramping up in the wake of a very hectic April slate. The club calendar calms a bit in May, but that gives us a chance to assess several late-season standouts in the lead-up to Nationals.

This is an especially critical stretch for the 2028s, who will begin their collective college recruiting journey in about a month. We want to do our part to highlight as many stellar sophomores as possible, and this is a perfect time to do it.

Pin hitters and liberos have already been in our Kansas 2028 spotlight, but we have a major void to fill in the middle. Let's do it.

We have a lot of 2028 middles to add to our Kansas database, and Bichelmeyer is one of the first in line. She has anchored the net for MAVS 816 16 National, which earned a top-ten finish in Show Me's 16 USA race. Whenever 16 National found a passing rhythm, Bichelmeyer was sure to get some attacking volume in front of the setter. Her quickness off the floor often left opposing blockers a step behind at the tape. Bichelmeyer combines that with the energy and tireless effort that have defined the entire MAVS 816 lineup. This De Soto sophomore is ready to make the upperclassman ascent.

Let's linger in the MAVS gym. Weinert has been an indispensable part of MAVS KC 16 Elite's tone-setting frontcourt. We had the privilege of covering 16 Elite's perfect start at the Triple Crown NIT, and Weinert's presence in the middle helped sustain that early momentum. Her climb has continued as she has become one of 16 Elite's best 'gap' hitters. Weinert thrives while operating away from the setter, exploiting seams in the block on up-tempo balls. We can look forward to seeing more from Weinert on GJNC's prestigious 16 Open stage.

McCune is the frontcourt go-to who does a little of everything for Topeka Fury 16-2. Her tremendous physicality makes her an ideal fit for the middle, but that's not the full extent of McCune's range. She makes frequent forays at the outside hitter spot, providing some first-ball firepower in Topeka Fury's offense. It's scary to think that McCune is just starting to reach her ceiling as one of Kansas's most imposing 2028s.

Club MVP's top 16s squad has plenty of rising stars to see. Underhill was already gaining traction after logging 2.3 kills per set with Baxter Springs last fall. She has shown a willingness to swap between the middle and the right, giving her maximum opportunities to tee off at the net. Club MVP has harnessed Underhill's multi-dimensional game, particularly during the team's successful trip to MEQ. Kansas's club footprint keeps expanding.

Baalman is fitting right in with her new crew. This athletic 2028 middle made the move to KNVBC 16.1 Showtime for this year's club campaign, and Baalman has not hesitated to establish on-court connections. She works hard in transition, making her an ever-present scoring threat while Showtime churns out quality digs. We've also seen Baalman upgrade other skills that are often overlooked at the middle blocker spot. She will readily become an out-of-system setter for KNVBC and brings infectious effort in her serving rotation. Baalman's influence doesn't wane when she rotates to the end line.

We opened with a player who needs to be on our 2028 watch list, so let's close out with one, too. Brimer has rocketed to prominence among her sophomore peers after lighting up the scoreboard for KC Power 16-2. She is the team's dominant 'M1' who hammers away with indefensible heat in front of the setter. Opposing defenders struggle to track Brimer, who can author her own routes in first-ball situations. This dominance was most apparent in home territory, as KC Power 16-2 marched to a Show Me title in the 16 Liberty division. The team is clear GJNC frontrunner with Brimer anchoring the operation.
