Day 1 of USAV Nationals Standouts

Day 1 is in the books and we saw some exciting action from a ton of teams yesterday! A few individual players really stood out to us with their overall play, but I think AZ had a great day 1 in general! I would expect a lot of AZ teams to continue to do well on day 2 and 3 at nationals and head toward that gold bracket.   If we did not get you into our standouts today don't worry, continue to play well and we will see you! There are so many Prepdig Scouts at USAV this week and next week so make sure to say hi to everyone who is there, even if we aren't from your state!   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">First let's start with some teams who went undefeated on day 1:</h2>   Club Cactus 14 Mizuno: 3-0 (14 Freedom)   AZ Storm 14 Thunder: 3-0 (14 Open)   Omni 14N1: 3-0 (14 National)   AZ Sky 15 Gold: 2-0 (15 American)   AZ Storm 15 Lightning: 2-0 (15 American)   AZ EVJ 15 Elite: 3-0 (15 Freedom)   Club One 15 Platinum: 2-0 (15 USA)   Omni 15N1: 2-0 (15 USA)   Aspire 15 Alpha: 3-0 (15 National)   We love seeing so many unbeatens on day 1, we hope to see this trend continue on day 2 as pool play comes to an end! Hopefully we can get these teams and then some who aren't listed in the running for gold bracket! Make sure to tag us as you all go 3-0 on day 2! Looking forward to seeing all our AZ teams continuing to do well. Now let's move on to some individual performances and standouts!   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Day 1 Standouts:</h2>    Brooke had a great day with her all around game for Revolution. She was a force on offense, defense, and especially with her serving. She set the bar all day for the court as to where others should get too and routinely was scoring points from all over the court. She showed the ability to score from both the front and back row, attacking with a fast arm swing and a variety of shot selections. She might have been the top point getting and a lot of that had to do with her being comfortable swinging in and out of system, she always had that green light.   Most importantly she was able to do other things on the floor and help her team be successful. In serve receive and defense, she showed the all-around skill set that we love to see out of a pin hitter. Most importantly she passed with confidence, defended her position well, and consistently kept the ball in play. Overall she seemed on a different level and just full of confidence throughout day 1! Expect her to continue this trend on day 2!     Parker really has done well this season with her game play and I think she is going to really take off with a strong nationals. If day one was any indication she should be progressing very well moving forward. First, defensively, she displayed excellent court awareness, reading hitters well and taking efficient angles to the ball. She was always in the right spot, seemed to anticipate well and always moved well to create space with her arms to pass to the target.   Parker also showed a ton of athletic ability as well and had a quick first step, strong range, and the willingness to pursue every touch that allowed her to extend rallies and create transition opportunities. On more then one occasion she was saving balls, digging balls, and just extending rallies to help Livewrire score. Overall a great day 1, and I expect to see her continue this trend the rest of the week!     Morgan was one of the standouts from Sky 15 Gold undefeated day 1. She turned in a great day with her offensive scoring abilities but also with her defensive force at the net. On the offensive end she was hitting at a high clip throughout the day, routinely scoring through and around blocks. She was able to hit down the line, sharp angles, and bounce a few balls when the time called for it. She was one of the top point getters on the day on the offensive end.   Her defense was also on great on day one as she continually shut down opposing hitters on the pin and would force them to take shots to where her defenders were. She got plenty of blocks and block touches that helped her team on the defensive end and was able to do so with her ability to jump high and take up space. She has a great vertical which helps on both offense and especially defense for taking away angles from hitters. Her day was great, and she will look to continue this on day 2!     Cameron did a great job leading Storm to a 3-0 day. She was running the show the whole time and contributing in a number areas including running a balanced and fast offense while chipping in some serving and defense. Her defense was great as she was able to get touches on multiple balls to keep rallies alive and put the ball in great positions for the libero to get a good second contact to run the hitters.   With her offense she knew exactly who to go to when they were in system and how to exploit the other team for points. She put the ball in great positions for her hitters to score a bunch of points and ran a good tempo with her middles when needed as well. She has a great set of hands and moves extremely well to make sure to always get her hands on the sets, which isn't something you see in 14 year old setter. Overall a great day for Cameron as she helped lead Storm to a 3-0 day.     Ellie looked good on the pin on day 1, not only in the front row but with her all around game as well. She was a 6 rotational standout for parts of day 1 and someone who some could argue was the best player on the floor at times. On offense she showed a good offensive range, finding seams in the block and using tips, roll shots, and line attacks effectively when the hard shot was off. Ellie was ok taking what the defense gave her and showed her court IQ by being able to score however was needed.   She didn't just score though, she added elements throughout the sets and matches that helped her team as well. When she served she would serve aggressively, and would pass well in serve receive. She was always on top of her game in the serve and serve receive department, helping one stay out of system and another in system. A great day 1 from Ellie, and shouldn't be all that surprising to see her do that over the next few days as well.     Scarlett had a great day 1 by all accounts. She was a great blocker and a great offensive player who really had some big moments throughout the day. For starters at the net, she pressed well over the block and consistently challenged opposing hitters with solid timing and disciplined positioning. She would take away angles and close the block well with her middles, taking a lot of space but also getting a lot of great touches on the block.   On the offensive side she was effective attacking both in-system and out-of-system, while being highly effective with her overall hitting percentages. She was someone that was terminating balls at a high clip and doing so in multiple ways. Whether she was hitting line, cross, or tooling the block she had a great day one on offense! Omni as a team had a great day and Scarlett was a big reason why! We are excited to see what else she can bring on Day 2 and Day 3!     Paisley is a libero for Aspire 14 Alpha who had a great day one. If you got a chance to watch her at all on day one you were able to see a young libero who sees the game at such a high level and has great court awareness for someone so young. She moves extremely well and seems to have great control of her body and movement which really benefits here in her defense and serve receive. Always seems to move and get to the court spot with ease.   Paisley also creates great angles to dig hard driven balls in defense and will get touches on tips or dumps that keep rallies alive. She has great form and always seemed to get her arms to the balls in a great position to keep her team in system. In defense and serve receive she took up a ton up a ton of space and was able to pass a ton of perfect passes or even playable balls on those long rallies. She was a libero who really stood out on day 1, and maybe a name we should start taking a look at harder!    <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   We have a lot more content coming from this incredible event!
