Hawaiian Island Fest Athletes Worth Knowing Right Now

You see it in the way athletes celebrate effort plays with the same excitement as a kill. You feel it in the pride they carry for their islands, their families, and the people who helped them get here.   The Hawaiian Island Volleyball Fest College Showcase gave athletes from Hawaiʻi and the mainland an opportunity to introduce themselves beyond the tournament. Yes, there were measurable jumps and impressive swings. But there were also conversations about family, resilience, leadership, and the responsibility these athletes feel to represent something bigger than themselves.   Some made their presence known through their volleyball IQ. Others through their relentless effort, composure, or energy.    [player_tooltip player_id='955239' first='Logan' last='Guerra'] never seemed rushed.   The Kamehameha setter played with the kind of tempo that allowed everyone around her to settle in. Her hands stayed clean, her feet arrived early, and she consistently put herself in position to make quality decisions before the ball ever touched her fingertips.   What stood out throughout the showcase was how quickly Logan processed what was happening on the other side of the net.   She wasn't simply setting the ball.   She was reading the defense.   Recognizing where blockers were leaning.   Understanding which hitters had an advantage and finding ways to create opportunities for them to succeed.   The speed of her footwork allowed everything else to happen. She worked hard to get her feet set underneath her, creating balance and consistency regardless of where the pass originated. The best setters often influence far more than the offense.   They influence the emotional rhythm of the team.   Logan's ability to combine quick decision-making, composure, and positive leadership made a lasting impression throughout the day.   ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     Gergana "Gigi" Kukin She creates them.   The 5'10" lefty from Kuʻikahi Wahine repeatedly found ways to turn rallies into scoring opportunities. Her mechanics remained clean regardless of the tempo, and she showed an understanding of when to take calculated risks instead of simply recycling the ball back over the net.   The difference was intentionality.   There was purpose behind her swings.   Purpose behind her communication.   Purpose behind the way she absorbed coaching feedback and immediately applied it.   Gigi's physical tools certainly draw attention. A 9'9" approach and 9'5" block allow her to compete above the net, but what stood out throughout the showcase was how coachable she appeared. Adjustments happened quickly. On the court I love being loud and always supporting my teammates. </blockquote>   The joy she finds in both volleyball and island life seems to follow her wherever she goes.   ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='997061' first='Kaya' last='Delaney'] | 2029 | Libero/DS</h2>   [player_tooltip player_id='997061' first='Kaya' last='Delaney'] played like every ball mattered. Because to her, it did.   The Tropical Touch libero repeatedly hit the floor to extend rallies, sacrificing her body without hesitation and somehow still managing to deliver controlled first contacts to target.   It wasn't reckless. It was disciplined.   Her platform remained steady even while moving at full speed, and her defensive urgency never seemed to compromise her technique.   What stood out just as much was her attitude. Kaya smiled after mistakes. Encouraged teammates. Stayed engaged.   The energy never shifted.   Playing up and representing a smaller club taught her lessons she now carries into every gym.   "Playing at such a small club and playing up means I had to be confident and disciplined to beat the big name clubs."   Confidence didn't always come naturally.   "Having confidence is something that most young athletes struggle with, including me. "I constantly go back to my middle school to help coach girls and boys volleyball. I think all players deserve an opportunity to be properly coached and be able to shine."   At fourteen years old, Kaya already understands that leadership means helping the next person believe in themselves, too.   ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     [player_tooltip player_id='995801' first='Kala'iakea' last='Daliva'] sees the game like a chess match.   While some setters focus solely on delivering hittable balls, Kala'iakea is already thinking one move ahead.   How can she manipulate the block? How can she create a one-on-one situation for her hitters? How can she force defenders to hesitate?   The calmness she brings to the court allows those decisions to happen naturally. Soft hands. Steady tempo. Composed leadership.   <blockquote class="wp-block-quote"> I'm a 2028 setter from Oahu, Hawaii and I love finding ways to manipulate the block to give my hitters the best chance of scoring as well as scoring myself. </blockquote>   There is confidence in that answer. Not ego. Kala'iakea already understands that responsibility.   ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Elizabeth Ganer | 2028 | S/DS</h2>   Elizabeth Ganer refused to let a ball hit the floor easily.   The 5'4" setter and defensive specialist from Maui consistently found ways to keep rallies alive, taking efficient angles into serve receive and making difficult defensive plays look routine.   Her communication stood out immediately. She directed traffic. Talked through chaos. Created confidence through clarity.   The urgency she played with made sense the more she shared her story.   Originally from Lāhainā, Elizabeth's family lost their home in the 2023 wildfire, and her uncle lost his life.   The experience reshaped everything.   <blockquote class="wp-block-quote"> Although this tragedy brought many challenges, it also taught me the importance of resilience, gratitude, and staying connected to the people and places that matter most. </blockquote>   Volleyball remains important. So do family dinners. Church. Time at the beach. Simply talking story with the people she loves.   <blockquote class="wp-block-quote"> The support and love of my family and friends have helped me through difficult times and continue to inspire me every day. </blockquote>   Lāhainā remains at the center of who she is.   <blockquote class="wp-block-quote"> Lāhainā will always hold a special place in my heart, and I am proud to call it my hometown. </blockquote>   ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247    [player_tooltip player_id='781695' first='Taimalie' last='Tejada'] never looked rushed.   The HNL Volleyball utility player moved with discipline and intention, using efficient footwork to create balance before contact and consistently working to deliver quality touches.   Whether transitioning laterally at the net or stepping into serve receive responsibilities, her movements appeared measured rather than reactive.   She trusted her platform. Trusted her preparation. Trusted herself.   Taimalie understands that assumptions will be made before the first whistle.   <blockquote class="wp-block-quote"> As an undersized player, I use my athleticism and hard work to move across the net swiftly with a vertical. </blockquote>   <figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized"><img src="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2026/06/image_b5fe35.png?w=768" alt="" class="wp-image-997072" style="width:215px;height:auto"/></figure>   Instead of allowing labels to define her, Taimalie has chosen a different focus.   <blockquote class="wp-block-quote"> I work towards bettering my all around volleyball, athletic, academic and mental skills so I can be the best version of myself as a student athlete and as a human in general. </blockquote>   As Class President, she also carries a 4.2 GPA.   Leadership is not something she turns on for volleyball. Her voice carried through the gym from rally to rally.   The Class of 2031 outside hitter played with a confidence and fire that felt well beyond her years. She beat the ball to spots defensively, wasn't afraid to use emergency skills to extend points, and consistently found ways to keep her teammates engaged.   Her pancake save wasn't a last resort. It was another tool.   Her understanding of the game showed up in the little moments. Relaxed first contacts. Quick reads. Knowing when to push the tempo and when to simply keep the rally alive.   As a captain, she has already developed a clear understanding of the teammate she hopes to be.   <blockquote class="wp-block-quote"> I take pride in being a good teammate, having a positive attitude, and being the friend my teammates can count on. </blockquote>   <figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized"><img src="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2026/06/image_bb9286.png?w=768" alt="" class="wp-image-997097" style="width:224px;height:auto"/></figure>   She also understands the narrative surrounding Hawaiʻi athletes.   <blockquote class="wp-block-quote"> One thing I want coaches to know is that athletes from Hawaiʻi are often considered undersized, but our passion, grit, and work ethic are like no other. </blockquote>   Eden competes for more than herself.   <blockquote class="wp-block-quote"> It's for my family, my community, and God. </blockquote>   And she hopes the next generation watching from the islands believes their dreams are possible, too.   ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     [player_tooltip player_id='995743' first='Alexandra' last='Casillas'] understands that confidence can be contagious.   Whether she was on the court or standing on the sideline, she celebrated teammates with the same enthusiasm.   <blockquote class="wp-block-quote"> If I'm not playing and just on the sidelines I am cheering, even if nobody else is. </blockquote>   The 310 Volleyball middle brought noticeable energy to every rep. She communicated often, embraced the physicality of the middle position, and never seemed reluctant to draw attention to the people around her.   <blockquote class="wp-block-quote"> I believe keeping others confidence up is one of the most important things in volleyball. </blockquote>   That perspective influences everything she does.   <figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized"><img src="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2026/06/image_2e3fac.png?w=768" alt="" class="wp-image-997075" style="width:221px;height:auto"/></figure>   She loves to laugh. Even if you can't put your full physical pursuit into practice, take in what you can learn with all purpose. </blockquote>   Her dream is simple.   Find a college where teammates compete for one another and feel like family.   ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Victoria Roussere | 2028 | MB/OH/S</h2>   Victoria Roussere seemed to embrace whatever the moment required.   Need a block touch? She chased it.   Need extra effort in transition? She found it.   Need someone willing to take an unfamiliar role and simply compete? Victoria stepped forward.   The versatility of moving between positions often requires athletes to set aside preferences and focus on solutions.   Victoria appeared comfortable doing exactly that.   The gratitude she carries for the people around her surfaced immediately.   <blockquote class="wp-block-quote"> Volleyball has also blessed me with some amazing friends and teammates. They will always push me to my limits and make me the best person/player as possible. </blockquote>   Her appreciation extends equally to her family.   <blockquote class="wp-block-quote"> They do so much for me and I'm so grateful to have them in my corner. </blockquote>   The people supporting Victoria's journey matter deeply to her.   Every effort play seemed to honor that support.   ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247    [player_tooltip player_id='988467' first='Saini' last='Tuimaunei'] looked comfortable attacking the entire court.   The Class of 2030 outside hitter contacted high on top of the ball and showed the ability to score both line and angle without becoming predictable. She adjusted her shot selection based on what the defense gave her instead of relying on one swing.   When an attack missed its mark, there was no visible frustration. She reset. Prepared. Went again.   The accountability she displayed between points mirrored the way she described herself.   <blockquote class="wp-block-quote"> I would describe myself as hardworking, coachable, and determined. </blockquote>   The oldest of seven children from Laie, Hawaiʻi, Saini balances volleyball alongside soccer, track, and flag football.
