Shaye Witherspoon is no stranger to the big stage. She's been one of the top players in her class since she stepped on the court for Rockwood Thunder out of the St. Louis area. Last year she was training with the USA Youth National Team during Gauntlet weekend. A week later she would commit to Nebraska. Her game is special. She can do it all and attacks with such physicality where she is a threat to score anywhere on the court. Her Rockwood Thunder 17 Elite team will be one to watch at the Gauntlet as well as at USAV Nationals where they have earned a 17 Open bid.

On May 21 Mizzou Volleyball Instagram posted their newest commit - Maizy Agnello. I had to double check that it was from the Missouri Volleyball account and yes, Maizy Agnello, a 2027 prospect will enroll for the fall season. She has been the top player in the Illinois Class of 2027, a powerful outside hitter who has had major success on the high school and club courts. She is the key attacker for Sky High 17 Elite. The pop she has on her swing is just different and her ability to score out of system is worth a couple points a game. This will be an exciting move to see her in the SEC this upcoming fall.

She's back! Kyla Mitchell has battled a knee injury this past season, but will be back for Michio 17 Blue Smoke who were the 16 Elite Champions of the Prep Dig Gauntlet. The dynamic middle blocker just glides on the court from closing the block on the pin to being able to transition and score points off a variety of tempos. She changes the game for this team who has been a day two gold pool team in plenty of 17 Open Qualifiers. They will be a sneaky good team who will be fun to watch Gauntlet weekend.

Another middle blocker to watch will be Addison Kelenic of MKE Sting 17 Gold. She has been so fun to see improve since her 15s year. She always had the length and size, but she has evolved in her ability to score points and is so smart with using her shots. Defensively she knows how to get her feet to set the block with great body control to keep the ball in play off her hands.

North Carolina has been an exciting program to follow. Their recruiting classes continue to improve as well as where they are competing among the top ACC programs. Kalia Kroth of 1st Alliance 17 Gold will be one to watch at the Gauntlet as well as years down the road for the Tar Heels. She is a six rotation outside hitter who can score at will. She has an athletic and physical style where she brings no fear to the court. I've watched her since her 15s year where she had a big swing, but she has added a backcourt game where she will find a way to put points on the board.

Northern Lights 17-1 will be in the house at the Prep Dig Gauntlet this weekend where they will be among the top teams at the USAV Nationals 17 Open Division later this month. Kaelyn Bjorklund has been so fun to watch over the years at this event and others. She commands the offense and has such a presence. She was an early commit to Clemson on June 15 of 2025. This 17 Elite Division is going to be a battle among some of the top teams in the country.

Michio took home the 16s title from the Prep Dig Gauntlet in 2025. Luca Bombacino was part of that squad who has the firepower and balance to compete among the top teams. The future Michigan commit has a violent attack from the pin where she is going to find a way to score points. She has hand contact that is so explosive that the ball just sounds different from her force. The other side of the net has to be aware of her backcourt attacking as well.
