As we hit the middle of June, high school teams are conducting open gyms. The start of training camps are a month and a half away. No time like the present to look ahead at what we might go down in the fall.

Many recognizable names will be back on courts around the state. Others will emerge. That's our focus for this series. It's a rundown of student-athletes with breakout potential in the prep ranks for 2026. We'll split the players up by position.

We continue with outside hitters:

[player_tooltip player_id='777812' first='Havanna' last='Dolbeare'], 2029, Ankeny Christian/Impact: Following a Class 1A state championship three-peat, Ankeny Christian rebuilt last season to the extent that it lost to BCLUW in a regional final. With Dolbeare and other young talent, the Eagles seem well on their way to climbing back up the ladder. One could make the case that she broke out as a ninth-grader in 2025, ranking second on the team in kills and leading it in blocks. Her appearance here is for a breakout in her being recognized among the state's top 2029 prospects. Dolbeare has been excellent through six rotations for Iowa Impact this club season. Her production could be through the roof during the upcoming prep campaign.

[player_tooltip player_id='754537' first='Amelia' last='Guinn'], 2029, Solon/United: Like is the case with Dolbeare, it's not a call for a Guinn breakout from a statistical standpoint. She ranked second on Solon in kills and hit .220 as a freshman last season. It's a call for breaking into being acknowledged as one of the better 2029 pins in Iowa. Guinn is advanced from a power perspective. She's improving at taking what the block gives her and gaining consistency in putting the ball down to different court locations. Guinn has steadily advanced her game throughout the years and is well on her way to having a very impactful prep career.

[player_tooltip player_id='789484' first='Avrielle' last='Ohda'], 2029, Pleasant Valley: Ohda has broken out on the club circuit this year and is positioned to carry it over into her sophomore prep campaign. Pleasant Valley graduated a lot of firepower from its state tournament, and Ohda certainly provides firepower. She can jump out of the gym and generates velocity with her heavy swing. Ohda is figuring out how to use it to her advantage based on what the defense presents. Having faced top competition for her age group in club ball, Ohda will be prepared for what school ball throws at her in the fall. She is a prospect packed with potential.

[player_tooltip player_id='770743' first='Jasmine' last='Dodd'], 2028, Humboldt/Six Pack: Dodd played an important role in the rotation as a sophomore on a Humboldt outfit that enjoyed an improbable run to the Class 3A state championship match for the first time in school history. She produced 186 kills in 94 sets, hitting .253. With graduation losses, Dodd should take on more responsibility for a Wildcat team set on finishing the deal in 2026. And she's ready, if her play for Six Pack this club campaign is any indication. Dodd is developing as a six-rotation outside hitter with an all-around skill set for contributions everywhere on the court. She's improving in the back row and in defending at the net.

[player_tooltip player_id='751358' first='Emmie' last='Sager'], 2028, Dike-New Hartford/Six Pack: Sager proved to be an important part of the Dike-New Hartford rotation last fall, when it reached the Class 2A state semifinals. She saw a lot of time at the opposite pin during the run. Sager has continued growing as a player this club campaign, where she's learning to play six rotations and become a complete volleyballer for Six Pack 16s. The Wolverines lost a lot of production through graduation, opening up opportunities for student-athletes to earn larger roles. Sager has been working to meet that chance and looks like a great breakout pick for 2026.
