USAV GJNC Showcase: Hitters Finding Different Ways to Score

They recognize the block in front of them, adjust to imperfect sets, change tempos, attack different seams, and use every available option to keep defenses uncomfortable.   Throughout Session 1 of the USAV GJNC Showcase, several pin hitters separated themselves because of their offensive versatility. Some created points with pace and power, while others relied on vision, shot selection, or the ability to make adjustments in the air. Collectively, this group demonstrated that becoming a difficult player to defend is about much more than swinging hard.    Stella House consistently found solutions regardless of the situation. Rather than relying on one swing, she mixed tempos, changed locations, and used a variety of attacking options that kept defenders guessing throughout the session. Just as impressive was the way she commanded her side of the court. She communicated constantly, took ownership of the back row when needed, and played with the confidence of an athlete who enjoys leading. Her aggressive mindset, combined with her offensive creativity, made her one of the more complete outside hitters in attendance.   ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     Savanna Eatman approached every swing with purpose. She attacked aggressively while also demonstrating the patience to recognize what the defense was giving her. Her arm mechanics remained clean throughout the session, and she consistently found productive ways to score instead of forcing low-percentage swings. Combined with her athletic movement at the net and willingness to think one play ahead, she displayed the offensive maturity that separates developing outside hitters.   ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     Kamsi Ozigbo possesses an offensive toolkit that should continue expanding as she develops. She attacked with solid footwork, showed a willingness to vary her shots, and never appeared limited to one scoring option. What also stood out was her relentless effort throughout the session. Whether attacking, transitioning, or pursuing balls defensively, she maintained a high motor while showcasing the athleticism that makes her an exciting young pin hitter to follow.   ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     Kennedy Yarmuth generated consistent pace through a quick, efficient arm swing and disciplined approach footwork. She attacked sharp angles effectively and demonstrated the ability to challenge defenses from multiple locations along the net. Rather than simply overpowering opponents, she created scoring opportunities through quality mechanics and smart offensive decisions. Her combination of clean technique and attacking range stood out throughout the showcase.   ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     Mila Smith offensive mechanics are advanced for her age. Her approach remained balanced, allowing her to stay behind the ball and create quality contact even while making subtle adjustments during her attack. She worked the block well, attacked with impressive body control, and consistently created favorable angles. One of her more impressive traits was her ability to remain in the air long enough to make late decisions without sacrificing the quality of her swing.   ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     Lily Bissell relied on a powerful arm swing, but what elevated her performance was the variety she incorporated into her offensive game. She recognized opportunities to use the block, adjusted her attacks when needed, and continued creating productive swings throughout the session. Her work at the net complemented her offensive presence and highlighted an athlete who understands how to impact points on both sides of the ball.   ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     Elianna Miles consistently challenged opposing blockers with a quick arm and the ability to manipulate attacking windows. Her strong snap through contact generated quality pace, but she also showed an understanding of how to create uncertainty for the block before finishing swings. She attacked confidently, completed plays with authority, and displayed the offensive instincts coaches appreciate in an outside hitter capable of creating her own opportunities.   ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     Olivia Drucks showcased the versatility coaches hope to see from a true six-rotation outside hitter. Her footwork consistently put her in position to create quality swings, and she mixed off-speed attacks with aggressive swings to score in multiple ways. She hustled for every touch, communicated well with teammates, and impacted rallies well beyond the attack line. Her complete game allowed her to influence nearly every phase of play.   ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     Hayven Freitas-Chun showcased as one of the heavier attackers throughout Session 1. She generated impressive pace with a quick, powerful arm swing while consistently contacting the ball high, allowing her to drive the ball with authority. What made her especially difficult to defend was her willingness to mix in line shots and vary her attack rather than relying on one predictable swing. Despite competing with noticeable intensity, she never lost the smile that made her enthusiasm for the game impossible to miss. Her combination of offensive power, shot selection, and positive energy made her one of the more memorable outside hitters of the showcase.   ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     Alisynn Garau consistently demonstrated an offensive approach built on reliability and variety. She attacked with a repeatable, controlled swing while showing the confidence to use multiple options rather than forcing the same shot. She also remained prepared at the net, allowing her to stay available for quick offensive opportunities throughout the session.
