Mila does not get a lot of playing time for Metro on the outside with Nadia Wooten Nadia Wooten 5'11" | OH Bishop O'Connell | 2030 VA and Sai Herndon-Brown Sai Herndon-Brown 5'11" | OH The Bullis School | 2030 VA hitting left side. She does bring some height for an outside hitter but whether she plays for Metro 14 or Metro 15 she has talented left sides playing ahead of her.

When playing as a frosh for Flint Hill last year she finished second on the team in kills and first in aces. Her experience with Metro should improve her .055 hitting percentage making her a more effective hitter. She plays a solid back row making her an ideal 6-rotation player.

Hunter Ross Hunter Ross 6'2" | MB/OH Flint Hill | 2027 State #64 Nation VA will again get the majority of the sets but Mila can take some pressure off her with a much improve hitting efficiency.

Mila Smith offensive mechanics are advanced for her age. Her approach remained balanced, allowing her to stay behind the ball and create quality contact even while making subtle adjustments during her attack. She worked the block well, attacked with impressive body control, and consistently created favorable angles. One of her more impressive traits was her ability to remain in the air long enough to make late decisions without sacrificing the quality of her swing.

At 5’10” as an outside hitter, Mila Smith carries a frame that gives her natural advantages in both attacking range and net presence. These are two qualities that separate pin hitters early in their development. The 2029 class still has significant runway ahead, which means the technical habits she builds now around approach footwork, arm swing mechanics, and serve receive discipline will shape how far that frame ultimately takes her. The showcase environment is where evaluators get to see whether a hitter’s first-step quickness and shoulder timing hold up against contact she has not seen before and that answer will tell college coaches a great deal about her trajectory heading into her sophomore season.  We will be front and venter to see how well she produces against the top talent that is already signed up, so stay tuned for our report on her. 

Last year Mila played right side for Flint Hill as a frosh. Flint Hill won the VISAA state championship after struggling through the early season. Mila finished second on the team in kills, hitting mainly from the right side. While she may have been second in kills her .055 showed some struggles. That should improve with more experience. She also finished first in aces.

Mila currently plays a grade down for the Metro 14 team. Her hitting appears to have gotten more consistent. She has a number of athletic players to compete with at the pins so finding consistent playing time could be a challenge. Definitely a player who oozes talent.

Metro 14 has qualified for the Open Division in Junior Nationals. Mila has moved from # 63 to # 46 in our class of 2029 ranking.

Last year Mila played some right side for Flint Hill. She did not find herself too involved in the offense. Her hitting percentage of .055 is not what you want to see from a pin hitter, plus despite her 5’10 height she did not get credit for a lot of blocks as a right side. Those kinds of performances are not unusual for a frosh playing on the varsity team,

Her game has improved quite a bit as she plays down a year with Metro 14. With the talent level on the Metro 15 Travel team and even the 15 National team she is getting needed playing time and repetitions with the 14 team.

Miley showed a good ability to attack from the back row. This could make her a more potent offensive force next high school season.
