Day Three USAV GJNC 16, 17 Nationals High-Performing Players

When a bid into the gold championship is on the line, a number of players turn their games up several notches. It can be even more challenging in a national tournament when eliminated from such consideration on the third day. These players turned things up despite the position the teams entered coming into Thursday at the Indiana Convention Center. Austin takes solid swings on ones using a quick arm swing. Austin also puts great topspin on her serves to keep opponents out of system. Austin brings scrappiness on defense. Austin does a good job anticipating balls then going hard after them. Austin said the work on consistency with her serves and her ability to send floats to corners has paid off in the national tournament.     McNairl laid everything on the line trying to get REN 16 to the championship round of the 16 National Division. McNairl shows off her versatility each time she takes the court. She pounds out hard crosses and finds different ways to terminate balls. McNairl is not afraid to shove balls to corners if defenders are playing far away from them. McNairl even made a number of crisp passes throughout the day. McNairl credits the team for balancing each other out and keeping her on an even keel. McNairl said that helps push each other more.     Bakken showed how much she's improved setting the pins. Bakken has great touch on her sets and makes great decisions after seeing the floor well. Bakken has found the power zones for each of the 16 Black hitters. Bakken also does not hesitate to take big swings when needed. Bakken said spending extra time in the gym has helped with the pin sets and with her rhythm.     Rawlins looks all the more ready to help Briarcrest reload this fall. Rawlins takes crisp swings from the pins and middle and is pesky at the net. She works well with teammates to form solid double blocks. Her enthusiasm on the court is also a major plus for her. She hopes to take advantage of a number of one-on-one opportunites offensively this fall on the loaded Briarcrest team.     Fogle is productive at all six spots on the floor. Fogle takes solid swings, consistently placing them through double blocks and into seams. Her sound vertical jump and quick arm swing help her take solid swings. She also works with with teammates to put up walls at the net. Opponents can't to soft on Fogle or she'll quickly swat balls down.
