Kansas Rankings Updates Incoming--What to Know about the Overhaul

Into the breach.   Finally, we're ready to roll out the next wave of Kansas rankings updates. We've done a lot of work behind the scenes for what will be my first foray into the Kansas rankings. Multiple years of rankings experience on the Nebraska side have me ready for the challenge, but this will be an entirely new venture.   That warrants a Sunday primer. Our upcoming Kansas updates might have a different "feel" from prior refreshes as we construct a comprehensive picture of the state's prep scene. We'll detail what that looks like in a few of the points below. Plus, we have some important truths to keep in mind when looking at any set of prep rankings.   Let's break it down before the flurry begins.     The Schedule   We won't bury the lede. Here's the planned schedule for our next updates on the Kansas site:   2027s: July 6   2028s: July 13   2029s: July 20   This is a fairly standard week-by-week format that will give us time to discuss some of the changes and stock risers. But, as we'll cover later in this feature, we're planning to embrace an unconventional approach to future database overhauls. Adding the Kansas beat to my repertoire has led to new ideas for our rankings updates.   We can't wait to get into it.     The Crossover   Here's a quick reminder on our player database that is especially relevant to the Kansas crowd.   Our state designation for players is based on the location of an athlete's high school. It's a unique wrinkle for the Kansas and Missouri sites, which highlight dozens of Kansas City athletes who toe the border between the two states.   Building a database with this extra layer can be difficult, but we wouldn't have it any other way. The Heart of America Region has grown into a tremendous melting pot that will only grow stronger through this state-to-state crossover.   So, while I don't have any immediate plans to work on the Missouri rankings, the Show Me State will still hear from me from time to time. That's just part of the game.     An Ever-Changing Landscape   This is where we get into our slightly different approach to the Kansas rankings.   Of course, our evaluation criteria remain the same. We're not changing the way we rank players or positions. Rather, we're looking to vary the frequency and magnitude of our next few Kansas refreshes.   And "few" is the operative word here. The plan is to use an accelerated timetable between rankings updates to help supplement this Kansas overhaul. Truthfully, I still have a lot of film and numbers to absorb on Kansas' top prep performers, all while balancing in-season coverage and the Nebraska beat. If any of these updates miss something, we have the liberty to make quick updates and get a better depiction of the Kansas landscape.   So, while we'll hype up this upcoming wave of refreshes, know that our next overhauls are not far away. It'll all move quickly, just like the prep volleyball scene tends to do.
