The Players Behind the Points: Setters Ready to Shine This Fall

Some setters will be battling for their first varsity opportunity, while others will be returning as experienced leaders expected to guide their teams and run the offense. Each brings a unique skill set, whether it is their court vision, decision making ability, competitiveness, or ability to make their hitters better. She is a quick and efficient setter who makes smart decisions and puts the ball in good locations for her hitters. For such a young player, she shows impressive court awareness. She does a good job tracking down balls all over the court, gets her feet to the ball and delivers hittable sets to her attackers. She also shows great feel for the game by finding her middles even when she's forced off the net. She made solid decisions and put her hitters in good positions to score. This fall, she returns to powerhouse Stewartville, a program that has reached the state tournament the last two seasons in Class AAA. With the graduation of Langseth, one of the setter spots in Stewartville's 6-2 offense is up for grabs. She is an athletic, dynamic setter with the ability to make plays all over the court. She does an excellent job reading the defense, making quick decisions, and consistently delivering hittable balls to her attackers. Running a 6-2 offense, she will once again be counted on to provide steady leadership. Hoekstra does a solid job distributing the ball, keeping hitters involved, and making good decisions under pressure. I had the opportunity to see her compete quite a bit this year and while she was already a skilled setter, her growth from one tournament to the next was what truly stood out. That is exactly what you want to see in a young setter, a player who continues to learn, develop, and find new ways to elevate her game.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Vukelich is smart, composed, and has a great feel for the game. She understands what her hitters need and consistently does a great job putting them in positions to be successful. She has already built an impressive resume at Denfeld, but the exciting part is that she isn't even close to being done yet. With three years of high school volleyball still ahead of her, expect Vukelich to continue making an impact and adding more hardware to an already stuffed trophy case.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
