The Prep Dig San Antonio Next Up Showcase was outstanding. It was held at the Alamo City All Stars Center on August 15th. It was also live streamed via BallerTV. There were tons of amazing athletes from all over the state who were giving their all in both the positional drills and also the team scrimmages. We had each of our court coaches watch their team and select one player from each squad that embodied the core values of Avoli. There were some really athletic young ladies nominated and we could not be more proud of who was selected to win this prestigious award.

There is a certain kind of player who walks into a gym and changes the temperature of the room before the first ball is ever served. [player_tooltip player_id='878220' first='Gianna' last='Magana'] is that player. She is in the class of 2032. She has not started her high school career yet. And she just won the Avoli Award at a Prep Dig showcase held in her own backyard in San Antonio.

That is not a coincidence. It is a pattern.

G has attended multiple Prep Dig showcases over the past year and walked away with a Top Performer award every single time. At some point that stops being a surprise and starts being a statement about who she is as a competitor and a person. The San Antonio event gave her a chance to prove it in front of a home crowd with the added weight of expectation that comes from being a known name in the room and she handled all of it without flinching.

On the floor she is everything you want in a libero. At 5'0" she plays entirely on instinct and platform discipline and both are operating at a level that is genuinely hard to find in a player this age. Her reads on both hitters and servers are early and her first step is committed. She does not wait to see where the ball is going. She already knows. The composure she brings to first contact under pressure is the kind of technical foundation that takes most players years to build and she is already building it at an age when most of her peers are still learning where to stand in the back row.

But the Avoli Award is never just about what happens with the ball. It goes to the player who defines the culture of the event and [player_tooltip player_id='878220' first='Gianna' last='Magana'] did that from the opening drill to the final point of the day. She communicated constantly and proved herself through leading by example. She pulled her teammates into every rally. She celebrated every good play around her with the same energy she brought to her own and when something went wrong she was the first one to reset the group and get everyone moving forward again. Court coaches and scouts who watched her throughout the day were not just evaluating a skilled young libero. They were watching a natural leader operate in her element.

[program_tooltip program_id='431254' first='San' last='Antonio Juniors'] is a USAV National Champion and AAU National Champion program, one of the top clubs in the entire city and the standards of that environment are already shaping how Gianna approaches the game. What she is becoming inside that program at this age is one of the more compelling developmental stories in South Texas volleyball right now. Brennan High School has something very special coming through the door when her time arrives. College programs in the class of 2032 that are not already paying attention to [player_tooltip player_id='878220' first='Gianna' last='Magana'] need to start today, because the track record she is building on the Prep Dig showcase circuit is one of the most consistent we have seen from a player at this stage in a very long time.
