The Future is Here – SA Up Next Top Performers Vol 1

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Prep Dig Texas Showcases are back!  We had a big event that was held at the Alamo City All Stars Center on August 15^th.  The Up Next showcase for the middle school classes was amazing! These events always bring together athletes from across the state looking to compete in front of coaches while being evaluated by Prep Dig scouts and court coaches. There were tons of awesome players that we evaluated from their awesome production. Showcases like this continue to provide a valuable platform for athletes to be seen, tested, and recognized for their individual performance and intangibles. The 5'7" frame she brings to the setter position already generates a release point that creates real deception and her footwork getting to the ball was one of the cleaner things on the floor throughout the Up Next San Antonio camp. What court coaches kept noting was not just the technical quality of her sets but the decision-making behind them. She varied her set location, adjusted to off-target passes without telegraphing her intentions, and communicated with her hitters between points in a way that built trust quickly with players she had just met. The energy she brought to the gym was contagious and her sportsmanship throughout the day was exactly what the Top Performer award is designed to recognize. The way that she tracked the ball and saw the play happen well before contact throughout the Up Next San Antonio camp were consistently a beat ahead of the opposition and she committed to her movement direction well. Her platform was compact and repeatable and she kept the ball in front of her body on serve receive rather than reaching across her frame. Standing 5'1", every inch of her game has to be built on instinct and discipline and both were working at a high level throughout the day. She was loud and relentless from the first point to the last and the competitive spirit she brought to every rally made her impossible to miss on a busy floor. Her height gives her a release point that creates genuine problems for blockers trying to read her hand and throughout the Up Next San Antonio camp her set location showed real variety. She went quick to the middle when the block was slow to rotate and held the ball to the pins when she needed to keep the defense guessing, which is a level of offensive sophistication you rarely see from a player in the class of 2031. Her communication with hitters she was meeting for the first time was natural and immediate. The composure she showed when passes were off-target reflected a setter who processes the game rather than reacts to it.
