CoachMikeDZ's Show Stopping Upperclassmen Liberos at SoCal

Prep Dig Showcases are back! We had a huge event that was held at the Momentous Sports Facility on July 31st. These events always bring together athletes from across the state looking to compete in front of college coaches while being evaluated by Prep Dig scouts and court coaches. There were tons of awesome players that we evaluated from their awesome production. Showcases like this continue to provide a valuable platform for athletes to be seen, tested, and recognized for their individual performance and intangibles. Let's take a closer look at a few amazing liberos who caught my eye at the SoCal Stock Up showcase.    The 2028 Jserra defensive dandy put on a clinic at the service line during the scrimmage portion of the event as I watched her be pinpoint accurate with her laser serves and stifle the opposition. I loved the way she held her form after contact to ensure that her aim was accurate. This kind of attention to detail shows me that she takes her role very seriously on the court. What also stood out was both her posture and footwork after she served the ball. While a lot of players tend to admire their serve and take their time to get into position at their base, Miss Goodrich looked like a woman possessed with her next assignment. She sprinted to her base and held an amazing low posture that signaled to every scout that she was ready for any overpass or setter dump. Coaches like myself love defenders who understand the importance of defensive responsibility and you can tell that she has been trained very well. If you have a chance, I strongly suggest you take a look at this young lady and give her a few looks for your college roster.     One this is very clear after watching Miss Chavez in the SoCal showcase, this young lady will go all out for every ball no matter where it falls on the court. With no regard for her own safety at times, she will sprawl out on the floor during emergency situations and keep that ball from hitting the court. Looking like superwoman, she flew all over the court during the position specific drills and definitely made a name for herself as a tenacious defender. Not only did she dive on the floor, but she got up just as quick ready for the next play and that is exactly who college coaches keep on their list during recruitment. As I watched her compete, I saw a player who would never give up on a play and that is someone that anyone would go to battle with on any given day. We strongly suggest everyone keeps their eye on this back row baller.     Being a taller libero is not for the faint of heart as it is tougher to stay low like the height challenged players that dominate this position. So when we see a taller libero with a very disciplined posture show this kind of attention to detail, we know she means business. Using her height as an advantage, Miss Lealofi showed a very extended range that helped her cover way more ground than smaller players all night throughout the showcase. When using her platform to control the ball, the ball rebounded very nicely off of her arms. She seemed to control the ball very well instead of it looking like the ball was controlling her. By being very calm, cool, and collected on serve receive and while digging, the offense flowed very nicely off of her first contact. Her frame is very strong and that will lead to many consistent passes to her setter. She really impressed me and I can't wait to follow her progress in the sport.     By playing her club season with Forza1, I was super intrigued to watch her compete at the showcase due to her playing at such a high level during the club season. Although the competition was very high-level, Chloe seemed to rise above everyone and prove that she was one of the standouts in the position. Everything about her form and technique shined bright when I watched her both in the individual position drills and also the scrimmage portion. Some players were just born to play defense and her skills show that she is so naturally gifted. The way the she moved around the court so effortlessly tells me that the back row is her comfort zone and she knows every inch of it. With a court presence like hers, any team will be able to breathe easier knowing that she is behind them to cover or dig everything that comes her way. This young lady is one who I am very eager to watch this high school season and next club season to see where she stacks up in the state rankings.
