Dell Rapids came one match short of another Class A state championship last fall. The Quarriers are back with one of the biggest names in South Dakota volleyball, an all-state libero, a setter who was running the offense as a freshman, and a junior group that should see a lot more court.

The lineup will change, but a lot is coming back. And with an Oregon commit leading the way after a 600-plus kill season, Dell Rapids has my attention.

There won't be many players in South Dakota bringing more attention into this fall than [player_tooltip player_id='835393' first='Madelynn' last='Henry']. The Oregon commit already has 2148 kills, a .284 hitting percentage, 289 aces, and 1102 digs entering her senior season. She was a First Team Class A All-State honoree. (According to maxpreps.com)

Henry continued his dominance at state, with 21 kills against Rapid City Christian in the quarterfinals and 22 against Dakota Valley in the championship.

This year I am watching the Gatorade Player of the Year conversation with Henry. Teams know she has the ball. Blocks are gonna load toward her. Defenses will be put up to slow her down. She's already proven she can score with that sort of attention, and she has one more high school season to try for it. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

Wolff earned Class A All-State Honorable Mention after finishing her junior season with 332 digs, 47 aces, and 130 assists. She's been Chester's steady presence in serve receive and has already handled the pressure that comes with playing deep into November.

Dell Rapids can put a lot on Wolff defensively. She reads well behind the block, covers court, and gives Anderson a first ball she can actually run an offense from. Having that experience back at libero is a big deal for this group. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

[player_tooltip player_id='885389' first='Tenley' last='Anderson'] ran Dell Rapids' offense all the way to the Class A championship match as a freshman.

Now she's only a sophomore.

Anderson handed out 40 assists and added 14 digs against Dakota Valley in the championship. She wasn't just getting varsity experience last season. She was settling in for four tight sets with a state title on the line. But get this: in her freshman year, she has earned over 1,010 assists!

The connection with Henry is already there. I'm more interested in what Anderson does with everyone else this fall. Get another pin going. Find Schultz in the middle. Move the ball enough that blockers can't sit on Henry. Anderson already proved she can run the offense. Year two could open up a lot more of it. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

[player_tooltip player_id='729589' first='Sylea' last='Sykes'] has a chance to make life a whole lot harder for teams trying to slow down Henry.

She was already contributing as a sophomore, including seven kills against West Central and another seven against [program_tooltip program_id='432170' first='[program_tooltip program_id='432088' first='[program_tooltip program_id='431000' first='Madison' last='']' last='']' last='']. More swings should be there this season.

If Sykes becomes a consistent second scoring option, opposing blocks have a decision to make. Cheat toward Henry and leave something open somewhere else, or stay honest and give Henry more room. That's where Sykes could become really valuable. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

At 6-foot, [player_tooltip player_id='932679' first='Jersi' last='Schultz'] brings something different to this lineup. She can work through the middle or on the right and gives Dell Rapids more size along the net.

I'd like to see Schultz become a problem on the blocking side. Close space, get strong hands over, and make hitters work around her. Offensively, she's another option Anderson can use to pull attention away from the pins. This feels like a year when Schultz could get much more involved. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

Josie Price, [player_tooltip player_id='760384' first='Claire' last='Witte'] and Brielle Hilmoe are all back after being part of the varsity group as sophomores.

There are spots to win, and that's what I like about this group. Witte already saw time in serve receive and defense. Price gives Dell Rapids another pin to work with, while Hilmoe adds another defensive option.

We don't need to guess in August who wins which rotation. They'll settle that on the court. But Dell Rapids, with three juniors who already know the varsity pace, has options.

Alana Buresh was only a freshman last season and already spent time around the varsity group. She gives Dell Rapids another young option at setter/right side behind Anderson.

Her role may be different this fall, but she's another player worth keeping around as the lineup starts to settle. With so much youth already contributing in Dell Rapids, Buresh has time to work herself into more.
