Firepower Above the Net at the Sophomore ID Showcase Vol 1

Prep Dig Texas Showcases are back! We had some big events that were held at the Courtside Sports Center on July 19th. The Sophomore showcase for the 2029 grad class was amazing! These events always bring together athletes from across the state looking to compete in front of college coaches while being evaluated by Prep Dig scouts and court coaches. There were tons of awesome players that we evaluated from their awesome production. Showcases like this continue to provide a valuable platform for athletes to be seen, tested, and recognized for their individual performance and intangibles. Let's take a closer look at three pin attackers who earned Top Performer honors at the Dallas Sophomore showcase.    The right side position asks a player to do a lot of different things well and [player_tooltip player_id='952596' first='Sophia' last='Deibert'] handled all of them at the Dallas Sophomore ID Camp. Her net engagement was purposeful and she attacked from the right pin with an efficiency and timing that created real problems for the defense throughout the scrimmage segments. I loved that each time I walked by her court, she was fully engaged whether on the court or on the sideline. This tells me that she knows what it takes to be a great teammate in any scenario and is not selfish. Court coaches noted her blocking technique specifically, pointing to the patience she showed at the net before committing her close rather than leaving her feet too early. The frame she brings to the position at 5'10" in the class of 2029 is already drawing attention and the skill set she is building around it is keeping it. Please help us congratulate her on earning a Top Performer award for this showcase.     There is a version of a 5'10" outside hitter who relies entirely on her physical advantages to produce and there is a version who learns to play the game. [player_tooltip player_id='896998' first='Alayna' last='Wilson'] plays the entire game extremely well. Her approach footwork was deliberate and she loaded her swing correctly rather than just reaching back and swinging as hard as she could. She read the block and made hand adjustments at contact rather than committing to one shot and executing it regardless of what the defense gave her. Her serve receive was solid and she stayed engaged in the back row throughout the entire session without the lapses that appear in younger outside hitters when they stop thinking about their defensive responsibilities. Court coaches left the Dallas Sophomore ID Camp with her name written down and so did I. I can't wait to rank this class and see where she falls. [player_tooltip player_id='847942' first='Evelyn' last='Pang'] was one of the steadier outside hitters on the floor throughout the Dallas Sophomore ID Camp and steadiness over the course of a full day of competition is its own kind of skill. Her mechanics held up from the first drill to the final scrimmage and the contact she generated at the pin was consistent in both velocity and accuracy rather than alternating between spectacular and errant. She tracked down difficult passes in serve receive without letting the physical challenge affect the quality of her passing platform and court coaches took note of that habit specifically during their evaluations. She competed with a quiet focus throughout the event and the leadership she showed between points was the kind that comes from caring about the result rather than performing for the room. She is one name that I will for sure be watching as this high school season progresses. Please help us congratulate her on earning a Top Performer award for this showcase.
