The Up Next Showcase gave me a chance to get an early look at some of the young talent coming up through Minnesota volleyball. There were plenty of athletes who caught my attention with their athleticism, versatility, work ethic, and/or willingness to compete. It was fun getting a first look at this group and seeing the different skills they brought to the court. These are young players who stood out to me and are now on my radar as names to watch over the next few years. Usher impressed at the Up Next Showcase with her tenacity, versatility, and vertical. She wasn't afraid to take swings from anywhere in the front row. It's clear that middle is her favorite spot, but she can also take a big swing from the pins when needed. She hustles, works hard, and is always finding a way to stay available for the ball. Her athleticism and versatility made her fun to watch, and she's definitely a recruit to keep an eye on in the coming years.     Paul is a fiery pin with a bright future ahead of her. She does a really good job transitioning off the net, gets into her approach quickly, and can take a big, fast swing. She does a solid job working the cross court shot, but also has the ability to turn and go down the line when she sees the opening. She is athletic and quick, and that showed up in serve receive as well, where she created good angles and passed the ball well. There is a lot to like about her game, and she is definitely a player to keep an eye on as she continues to grow her game.     Gordon was one of my favorite middles at the Up Next Showcase. She is athletic, quick, dynamic, and she brings a lot of energy to the position. She also does a great job communicating with her setter, letting her know where she is so she can find her in transition. She has a big swing and plays aggressively, never hesitating to go after the ball. She was fun to watch and is definitely a middle I will be keeping tabs on as she continues to develop her game.     Severson was one of the harder working players on the court at the Up Next Showcase. She hustled after every ball and worked diligently through every drill. While attacking, she wasn't afraid to take big swings, attacking both out of the middle and from the pins. She is eager and clearly works hard at her craft, and that combination can take her far as she grows her game.     More was on fire at the Up Next Showcase. She showed great versatility and range, attacking from just about everywhere on the court. She is quick and agile, allowing her to get to a lot of balls and make adjustments. She also did a a good job adjusting to the different setters and their tempos throughout the morning. No matter what was sent her way, she found a way to make an aggressive swing and be terminal. Her ability to adapt and find ways to score made her stand out.     Moe is a setter who is clearly working hard on her craft. Whether she was in system or out of system, she moved quickly and did a good job getting her feet to the ball so she could deliver a hittable ball to her attackers. She also showed that she is developing her all around game, putting in the work defensively and making plays in the back court. Her work ethic and willingness to contribute in every area of the game make her a young setter to keep an eye on as she continues to develop her game...and I will be watching.
