Passers Who Passed the Eye Test at the Sophomore ID Camp

During the Sophomore ID Camp I was very interested in watching the L/DS and how they played and who rose to the top. After watching them throughout the showcase I can tell you that there are a ton of great L/DS in this class!   These are some of the best athletes out there and so many of these girls are going to end up playing in college. I was impressed by a ton fo them at the showcase but let me dive into these 5 for today!    Watching Tessa play she has some of the best form out there. She always seems to have the right angle, and her footwork and arms are always in the correct spot to make contact. Her platform is always smooth which leads to great passes to the setter to keep people in system. During drills she was always standing out with her communication and energy, as she was a big vocal leader on the floor and was leading her court mates throughout drills or game play.   During game play I was impressed with her overall reaction time when it came to her defense. She was always reacting to the ball off the block or stepping up and taking away angles when the block wasn't there and constantly delivering high quality balls. She was always able to get great touches on the ball and was rarely beaten during the scrimmage aspect at any point against the quality competition at the showcase. She is a libero that preformed very well at the showcase and is someone to get to know as we head into school season!     Lilly worked hard throughout the showcase and really came to play throughout all the drills and game play. One of my favorite aspects was that she wasn't letting anything fall during play. She picked up so many tips, and off speed shots since she had such a great base to exploded and get to the ball. She was reading hitters well and anticipating where things were happening before they did. Her court IQ was on full display during drills and game play.   She also had some steady serve receive throughout the showcase when we were doing drills. She would provided quality first contact and showed impressive range when getting to some serve receive balls. She also showed good defensive range and remained composed under pressure when longer rallies were happening when we got to game play. Most importantly she was a ball hog and always wanted to ball and would take any balls that were between her and another girl. She was aggressive and it paid off and she was always passing high level balls throughout the showcase and really is a libero who did well all day.     Alexandra did a great job as the showcase and is someone that really jumped out with her game play and is someone to watch to maybe make a jump into our rankings in the coming months. First, she consistently put herself in good defensive positions and showed a big time court IQ by always getting to spots on the floor during game play where the ball was heading. It could have been her court IQ or she just really anticipated plays well but more importantly she has fast footwork to get to where she needed to be. Overall her form is clean and simple which allows her to make clean first contacts.   One aspect about her game I liked a lot was her ability to use her hands on anything out of system. She has very good hands for a libero and is able to get the ball in a great location for her hitters to take swings when they are out of system. She also does well with her platform in that regard as well but her hands stood out as some of the best when I was watching. Most importantly I was a big fan of her ability to talk and communicate to her hitters about spots that were open and being vocal all during drills and game play. Overall she is someone firmly on our radar and we can't wait to see how her school season goes.     Mary had a great showcase and showed why she is one of the better liberos in all of southern AZ. First, she is great out of system, always giving her hitters great options for swings and being a calming influence with her ball control to start getting the team back in system. During drills she stood out with her ability to take up a lot of space, showing off great lateral footwork to take deep balls away in serve receive and defense. She seems to be very light on her feet and able to get a ton of touches on balls throughout drills and game play.   Defensively, she covered a lot of court and made several high-level digs against quality attackers throughout the showcase. It probably frustrated a ton of hitters to continually get dug by Mary throughout the showcase, but she was always in a great position with perfect form to take these hard driven balls or tips when needed. She played with that high energy we look for in liberos and was always talking and communicating whether it was during a play or between plays to her teammates. Mary is someone to be on the lookout for during school season!     Wallace had a very solid libero performance throughout the event. She showed consistent ball control in serve receive/defense each and every time I had the chance to see her. She has great body control and footwork that allows her to get that great form on the ball and was always in the right spot during drills and game play. She really killed it with how well she competed against the high level competition during game play, and seemed to see the game at a higher level over some of her peers.   Wallace also had a motor on her and was constantly moving throughout game play. She was always covering, transitioning in defense, moving her feet in serve receive and kept doing it to the same level each and every rep. While some girls would be getting tired Wallace was going 110% and looked good with each touch she had. She played with a lot of energy and passion which we love to see. Her game play was some of the best throughout the showcase and is on our radar moving forward!    <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   The 2026 Summer Showcases were an incredible way to wrap up the club season, and we couldn't be more excited about the talent we saw on display. Thank you to every athlete, coach, and family who helped make these events such a success. The future of Arizona volleyball is incredibly bright, and we're grateful to have had the opportunity to watch so many players compete.   This is just the beginning.
