Kansas's prep scene is stacked with teams worthy of contending for a state title, making championship triumphs so rewarding and remarkable. Last year's group of seven state title winners will welcome several stars back to the fall arena, and we can't wait to cover these repeat bids.

Hoisting a trophy at the end of the year is a sure way to get on coverage radars. These athletes are hoping to stay in that spotlight a little longer.

The list of freshmen on varsity rosters is always small, but the list narrows further when we exclusively look at state championship teams. Still, Pendergraph managed to defy trends by excelling in the middle during last fall's debut with Blue Valley West. She hit nearly 0.300 while carving out a regular starting role in the Jaguars' physical frontcourt. Pendergraph's rise continued with PVA 15 Elite during the club season, culminating in a trip to Indy for USAV Nationals. She has done plenty to prove her worth in the Class 6A crucible.

This one's not a mystery. Kubik, who has already pledged to represent Southern Cal at the next level, brought her terminal arm and all-around skills to Blue Valley West's 6A championship triumph last fall. She racked up 300 kills in a balanced, explosive Jaguar offense, offering a testament to Kubik's takeover potential on any roster. We got a reprise of Kubik's dominance with Dynasty 16 Black, and Blue Valley West will remain a title favorite heading into the fall. Those high-level reps will leave her Big Ten-ready.

Let's address one of Kubik's [program_tooltip program_id='428889' first='Dynasty' last=''] teammates rejoining a different state champion this fall. Seals made a big impression while patrolling the net for 16 Black this spring, leading to her recent rise in the 2028 rankings. Her tireless effort and pin-to-pin explosiveness yielded an impressive USAV Nationals highlight tape. However, that Indy trip wasn't Seals' first exposure to postseason volleyball. She hammered down a triple-digit kill total during St. Thomas Aquinas' title run last fall, and Seals is eager for more in 2026.

We're finally bringing a senior leader into the mix. Winter is an ideal fourth-year trendsetter for Andale High School, but she was already a star with last year's team, too. Winter soared to the top of Kansas' efficiency charts with a 0.311 hitting clip. She's a multi-position terminator who can do serious damage from the middle or the pin, and Winter's spring tenure with KNVBC brought that firepower back into the spotlight. Options abound for Winter's senior season before she carries the banner for Washburn University at the next level. The Ichabods are happy to keep this Andale senior in the Sunflower State.

We now visit with Silver Lake, last year's Class 3A champs after an exceptional 46-1 campaign. This accomplishment would not have been possible without Deiter's authoritative swings on the left antenna. Her quick, springy step-close makes her an ideal outlet for out-of-system situations. Of course, Deiter also thrives when she's in a rhythm and can drive her full approach through the ball. The result was over 3.5 kills per set and further gains with KNVBC 17U Lakers. Expect another upperclassman surge.

Ritchie and Ellinwood left little doubt about which team deserved the golden hardware in Class 2A last year. The Eagles soared to a 47-0 record while Ritchie compiled numbers that were seldom matched in Kansas' Class of 2028. She hit for a 0.381 percentage from the middle, upping her career average above 0.350. Ritchie's highlight film contains a wealth of 'gap' kills and over-the-top swings against double blocks. It's no wonder she was so unstoppable, and Ellinwood will lean on Ritchie's efficiency even more this fall.

So, Raleigh is already familiar with defending a state championship. She'll look to go 4-for-4 with Little River this fall, and Raleigh has consistently raised the bar throughout her decorated prep career. This high-flying pin hitter has contributed to Little River's title streak since her freshman year, but production absolutely exploded in 2024. Raleigh tallied over three kills per set as a sophomore, and she backed that up with a 3.6 average a year later. If her upward trajectory persists, a four-of-a-kind is in play.

We opened with one of last year's freshmen, so let's close out with another. Hanover High got on a late-season heater last year, winning its final 13 contests while only dropping one set along the way. Perhaps Stallbaumer's increasing influence in the offense had something to do with it. This versatile attacker finished with the third-highest scoring total on the Wildcats' tab and produced her most efficient work on the final days of the season. Hanover returns several key contributors from last year's group, so Stallbaumer could see more of the postseason gauntlet soon.
