And don't worry, we'll still have plenty of time and space for our typical wave of preseason high school coverage. But we've learned a lot from the last several months of club competition, giving us a lot of room for a rankings refresh.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Let's begin. Here's our introductory feature for some trends, storylines, and reminders to ponder as we shake up the leaderboard in the Cornhusker State.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline">Some Housekeeping</span></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Rankings updates aren't solely about moving names around.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Let's refresh some info. Next week's features will delve further into this, but we've had a lot of recent college commitments on the Nebraska circuit lately. You've probably seen many of them. The 2027s have been particularly prosperous, giving us a whole influx of storylines to discuss as we update our database.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>And we'll have some changes within the prep scene, too. We'll do our best to capture any player transfers or club changes, and this process will persist into the fall. Not only did Nationals provide our most recent look at many of Nebraska's top stars, but it's also a test of a player's mettle against the nation's best. We're always drawn to those who can perform when the lights are brightest, and the summer slate provided that test.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>But that's not all. I'm also coming back from a stacked showcase slate, which included last weekend's Nebraska Stock Up Showcase. That La Vista outing produced some lasting impressions that will inform the next wave of database overhauls.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline">A New Era for the Class of 2029</span></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>You knew this one was coming.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Over the past several months, we've been toiling over the impending rollout of our first Class of 2029 rankings. As we've mentioned in past features and rankings releases, we don't have a set number of athletes to target for this initial release. It'll all come together somehow.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Rather than fixating on the exact order in this rankings debut, it's important to emphasize where we stand with the 2029s. We currently have one high school season to glean from for this group. The 15s season just wrapped up. The Class of 2029 is bound to grow and evolve while showing us a lot more about the state's exceptional talent.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>So, this first list isn't about the exact order or hierarchy. It's a reflection of the select few athletes who have repeatedly distinguished themselves at prep volleyball's highest levels. Several more names will enter the fray in successive updates as we learn more about these rising sophomores.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It's a big release, but it's one of many.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline">Moving Forward</span></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>We've been kicking the tires on publishing more frequent rankings updates. It's something we discussed with our recent Prep Dig Kansas release, but we'll reiterate some of these points for the Nebraska crew.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The club landscape changes from week to week and month to month. We've traditionally aimed for quarterly rankings updates, looking to get a current glimpse at Nebraska's top athletes. But innovation never stops, and our latest fixation is on some occasional "intermediary updates" to close some gaps we may have created.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This reflects an ever-present fact of compiling a player database: there's always more. Even after scouring rosters and highlight tapes for hours and days on end, we will inevitably drum up new names for the list. Smaller states like Nebraska are not precluded from these challenges, and we want to do our part to feature as many athletes as possible.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>And there's another side of this free-flowing process. Prep players are constantly developing, improving, and making big impressions. Maybe we'll publish rankings and immediately watch an athlete perform above our expectations. That happens a lot. The philosophy is that we shouldn't have to wait an entire quarter if a rankings adjustment is warranted far sooner than that.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>So, stay tuned.
