Pin Hitters Who Balled Out at Houston Open

The Texas high school volleyball season continues to progress at full pace, and while most of the eyes are turned to the teams competing in the public tournament organized by the University Interscholastic League (UIL), there's a ton of talent spread among the many programs linked with private schools in the Lone Star State as well.   A couple of weeks ago, Prep Dig Texas got to witness it firsthand as we attended the Houston Open 2026, a traditional tournament held at the [program_tooltip program_id='510661' first='Houston' last='Skyline'] facility that reunites most of the top private high school programs from the region for two days of action.   <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li><a href="https://prepdig.com/2026/08/houston-open-2026-photos/">Houston Open 2026 - Photos</a></li> </ul>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://www.instagram.com/p/DcUv-Z_juZB/?img_index=1 </div></figure>   We recognized talent in many of the participating teams and will this week feature the players who delivered strong performances at the event. The outside hitters are today's subject:    Cooksen helped her John Cooper team go undefeated in the event with five victories. The sophomore was an important offensive weapon for the team, carrying a significant load for them at the pin. Cooksen made the most of her impressive vertical to make contact with the ball at a very high point, which opened up many possibilities that she managed to explore thanks to her vision and shot selection. The pin hitter also did well in serve-receive, showing confidence and solid ball control to deal with the serves that went her way.      Moriarty had a big role in Episcopal's campaign, which saw the team earn five wins in as many matches. She was very strong offensively, making contact with the ball at a very high point, hitting it hard and consistently finding ways to go around opposing blockers. The junior frequently hit from the middle back position, too, and did very well thanks to her length, vision and precision, finding sharp angles for her swings. Moriarty also demonstrated remarkable consistency with her passing and was very aggressive with her serving, often getting opponents in trouble.      With Honoré at the pin, Lutheran South Academy produced three wins and two losses over the weekend. The sophomore worked very well as a volume scorer for her team, putting on big numbers and stepping up when they needed her. Honoré's height got her in good positions to score at the net, but she also did very well with her vision, showing solid variation with her swings and consistently finding open spots. A tall and aggressive blocker, she also contributed on the back row, handling most serves that went her way well and getting several touches on defense.      Marechal was with the Awty team that completed its schedule with three wins and two losses. She was the focal point of their playing system and appeared well on both sides of the ball, while also producing with remarkable consistency. A lefty, the junior was at her best offensively when hitting a quick, shortened set at the pin, but also did well in out-of-system plays, showing excellent vision to find open spots on the court. Marechal also had a prominent role in serve-receive and was accurate with her deliveries for most of the time. She made an impact from the service line, too, firing an accurate and powerful top spin jump serve that consistently got opponents out of system.      Jackson was with The Woodlands Christian Academy in their campaign of two wins and three losses. Capable of playing anywhere at the net, the sophomore was used as an outside hitter and made a strong impression with her solid all-around game. Tall and physical, Jackson made a big impact at the net, making the most of her high contact point but also showing excellent vision on offense and pressing opponents with her blocking.
