Versatile Athletes Making Their Mark

The ability to make an impact in more than one area can be a game changer for any team. These five athletes have shown versatility in their games, whether it's finding ways to score, making plays defensively, or stepping into different roles when needed. Their ability to adjust to the situation, use their tools to their advantage, and stay composed makes them valuable pieces to their respective teams.    Jovee Riness, for the Riverton Silverwolves, has settled in to be one of their leading attackers offensively. She takes high swings, gets her feet to the ball, and moves the ball around to expose holes in the defense. Even if she gets blocked or makes an error, Jovee is not afraid to take a swing at the very next ball.   Not only does she impact the game at the net, but she also keeps her team in it with her defense. She hustles down out-of-play balls, controls hard-driven balls, and controls the easy stuff.     Ella's volleyball IQ and versatility make her a special kind of athlete. She was first trained as a middle blocker and, for the past two seasons, has transitioned to the setter position. Regardless of where she is placed, Ella knows how to best impact the game.   As a setter, she has grown in technique, extended her range, and become more comfortable and accurate with her long-string sets. Not only has her skill grown and developed with time, but her IQ and court vision have grown as well. Ella is not afraid to send it over on two and is quick to expose holes in opponents' defensive systems.   This year for the Eagles, Ella plays as a DS on varsity. She will hustle down any ball, and with her solid foundation of control, she is learning to dig even tougher balls while playing on varsity this year.     In [player_tooltip player_id='827413' first='Milan' last='Taala']'s most recent match against the Bountiful Redhawks, she found her kills high down the line and into the deeper seams of the court. If the ball wasn't in a great position, she did a great job using off-speed shots to score or put the Redhawks out of system. She demonstrated early angles in serve receive and the ability to be an effective defender.     [player_tooltip player_id='940765' first='Rosemary' last='Scott'] is a versatile, reliable team player for the Brighton Bengals. As a libero, she has good range to grab off-speed balls and dig 5-7 feet around her. Rosemary is calm on defense, consistent on out-of-system balls, and takes care of easy off-speed shots put over. In last night's match, she switched to play outside unexpectedly and did a great job. She has the control at the net to move the ball around and swing with some pace to score in the seams.     [player_tooltip player_id='1043099' first='Brie' last='Smith'], as a sophomore, is a very versatile athlete. For the Redhawks, she mainly plays in the middle, but she also knows how to play on both pins as well. She has a solid foundation of understanding and ability for each position and utilizes her tools well. As a middle so far this season, Brie presses early on the block, maintains consistent timing and spacing on her attacks, and knows what to do with out-of-position balls.
