Which Team Will Dominate at Durango Classic Vol 4

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Every September, Las Vegas stops being just a volleyball destination and starts being the proving ground for the best programs in the country. The Durango Classic brings together a field that stretches from Hawaii to Kentucky, from South Dakota to Southern California, and the matchups that happen inside these gyms tend to shape the national conversation for months. I will be onsite in person to cover the awesome matchups. Here is an early look at some of the programs bringing the most compelling storylines into the tournament.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:separator --> <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" /> <!-- /wp:separator --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Lone Peak High School | Highland, UT</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>There is no more decorated volleyball dynasty in the state of Utah than Lone Peak and the program that walks into the Durango Classic is one that has built its culture entirely around winning championships. The Knights have won the 6A state title in five consecutive seasons, capturing the championship in 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024, and the program has won 7 of the last 8 UHSAA 6A titles overall. The Burgess family has been at the center of that dynasty for years, with KJ Burgess now at Oklahoma, 2024 Gatorade Utah Player of the Year Zoey Burgess now at Arizona State, and [player_tooltip player_id='804717' first='Ava' last='Burgess'] carrying the legacy forward as the 2024 Utah Valley Player of the Year after leading the Knights to their fifth consecutive championship with a 25-19, 25-18, 25-20 win over Pleasant Grove in the state final. The current roster lists [player_tooltip player_id='804717' first='Ava' last='Burgess'] alongside Maise White, [player_tooltip player_id='894187' first='Chevelle' last='Peters'], [player_tooltip player_id='892968' first='Luhanna' last='Panta']  and [player_tooltip player_id='1015193' first='Bella' last='Snow'] as the core pieces of a program that operates under head coach Casey Adams and has not forgotten how to close out a championship match when it matters. The Durango Classic gives the Knights a chance to measure the 2026-27 version of this program against national competition and that is a test Lone Peak has consistently risen to meet.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Annapolis Area Christian School | Severn, MD</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Annapolis Area Christian makes the trip from Maryland with a roster that includes middle blocker Abisola Adeyemo, who Prep Dig has identified as the top middle blocker prospect in the region in the class of 2028 and who earned the Avoli Award at the Prep Dig USA Volleyball Junior National Championship Showcase in Indianapolis this past June. Adeyemo brings a 5'11" frame and a blocking and attacking profile that has drawn consistent attention from scouts and college coaches throughout the summer, having also been described by multiple evaluators as sitting at the top of the middle blocker group in her region with real offensive production to complement her net work. Super Sophomore pin attacker Scarlettt Netherton has been on fire this year from the front row as she leads all scorers in kills by a wide margin.&nbsp; If this team is going to have a shot in this prestigious tourney, there is no doubt that Scarlett will have a hand in it. Senior Dakota Penthorn has been commanding the troops and her senior leadership will be needed this weekend. A program making this kind of geographical commitment to a national tournament is doing so because the talent warrants the exposure in Las Vegas and will give college coaches from programs across the country a chance to see them in person. She is the kind of prospect that makes a 2,400-mile trip worth adjusting a scouting itinerary for.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Corner Canyon High School | Draper, UT</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Corner Canyon has emerged as one of the programs most directly challenging Lone Peak's dominance of Utah volleyball in recent seasons and the Chargers enter this tournament as one of the stronger representatives from a state that does not get enough national credit for the quality of volleyball it produces. They are also currently undefeated on the year with a 10-0 record. The program competes in Region 4 of the UHSAA 6A classification alongside some of the most competitive programs in the state and has built a volleyball culture that demands excellence week in and week out. For evaluators who cover the Mountain West and Intermountain West recruiting corridors, Corner Canyon provides a representative look at the level of play developing in Utah, and the Durango Classic is the right setting to evaluate them against a national field for the first time this fall.
