Maija Mortensen along with her teammate Taylor Freeland are human highlight reels.  They has length, strength, and power.  Their game is so dynamic as some of the top players in Utah as well as the country.  Mortensen would be a huge pick up for BYU who will be looking to make a splash in the Class of 2028 under new coach Rob Nelson.  Mortensen has been to the BYU camp recently, but also was at the Wisconsin camp that had plenty of the top prospects from the Class of 2028.

She totaled 9 kills and finished off the season with a .323. Her height and reach on the ball make it easier for her to find ways to score and she’s not afraid to use off-speed shots when needed or swing full force when she sees the opportunity. The scariest thing about Mortensen is that she has two more years for the Mustangs and she is just beginning the ascent toward her ceiling.

With her length, Mortensen tracks well along the net with good footwork to help close blocks, create positive touches, and make big plays. She stays engaged throughout rallies and transitions quickly off the net to make herself an option. When Mortensen is at the net, she disrupts blocking patterns with her offensive abilities. With her reach and height, she has good range to turn the ball and find holes in defenses. When she is 1-1 and on top of the ball, she will unload.
