The newest Class of 2029 rankings update has officially dropped, and all eyes are on the floor generals orchestrating the offense.

Setting requires elite court vision, quick decision-making, and pure leadership. For freshmen stepping straight into varsity or top-tier 15s national club play, managing offensive tempo and keeping opposing blockers in check is no easy feat; only the most physical, high-IQ playmakers thrive right out of the gate.

These ten Class of 2029 setters have separated themselves through clean hands, spatial awareness, and the ability to elevate their entire team. Here is a scout's look at the Top 10 setters claiming the top spots on our board.

[player_tooltip player_id='745951' first='Lucy' last='Rydell'] takes the top spot on our 2029 board, and it's easy to see why when you watch her run Fargo North's offense. Running a Class AA attack as a freshman setter is tough, but Rydell plays with a calm demeanor you usually see in upperclassmen. Her hands are soft and repeatable, and she moves efficiently to get under passes that pull her off the tape. She has already logged 180 assists and 23 aces in EDC play. What really stands out is her jump set; she catches the ball at the peak of her jump, holds opposing middle blockers in the center, and pushes a crisp, fast ball out to her pins. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

#2. [player_tooltip player_id='755656' first='Raegan' last='Killoran']

Slotting in at #2, [player_tooltip player_id='755656' first='Raegan' last='Killoran'] brings a dynamic, athletic profile to the position. She covers a ton of floor, turning out-of-system passes into hittable sets with quick lateral footwork. Beyond just getting the ball to her hitters, Killoran plays smart. She reads defensive setups on the fly, feeds whichever attacker has the hot hand, and isn't afraid to take charge at the net. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

#3. [player_tooltip player_id='905310' first='Caroline' last='Nelsen']

[player_tooltip player_id='905310' first='Caroline' last='Nelsen'] comes in at #3, and one of the biggest things that stands out to me is how polished she already looks as a freshman setter. Her footwork is controlled, she gets her hands up early, and her quick release makes it hard for blockers to read where she's going with the ball. I also like how she gets her hitters involved rather than relying on just one option. Nelsen has a good feel for distributing the ball across the front row, and her mechanics and decision-making set her apart from many players in this class. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

#4. [player_tooltip player_id='727727' first='Leyton' last='Johnson'] | Fargo Davies

At #4, [player_tooltip player_id='727727' first='Leyton' last='Johnson'] is a major reason Fargo Davies keeps its offense in rhythm. She plays with real composure under pressure, running a quick-tempo attack that constantly stresses the defense. Johnson's location accuracy on quick-51s and slide routes is top-tier for a 2029 prospect, backed up by 296 assists in EDC action. She consistently delivers on first contact, setting the tone every time she takes the floor. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

Taking #5, [player_tooltip player_id='887331' first='Emma' last='Lendobeja'] plays with an engine that simply doesn't quit. If a ball is anywhere near the court, she's sprinting to track it down and keep play alive. What makes her special is her ability to square up and push high balls out to the left pin even when she's forced deep into Zone 6. She brings huge vocal energy, keeps her team connected, and never gives up on a rally. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

At #6, [player_tooltip player_id='784974' first='Madden' last='Tollefson'] uses subtle deception and sharp decision-making to freeze net defenders. She likes to jump-set to hold middle blockers in the center before flicking quick sets out to the right side.

[player_tooltip player_id='846689' first='Claire' last='Brendel'] has put together a solid freshman campaign for Legacy in WDA play, earning her the #7 ranking. She sets from a high contact point, letting her run a fast offense without losing location or touch. She also plays disciplined defense in Zone 1, popping up hard-driven line shots and getting right back up to set the transition ball. That two-way play gives her a strong future. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

Holding down #8, [player_tooltip player_id='767585' first='Maggie' last='Meyer'] is a true two-way playmaker for St. Mary's, impacting every area of the game. She has posted 131 assists, 130 digs, and 17 aces in WDA play. A setter who can dig like a libero and immediately transition to a clean set gives her team a huge advantage on scramble plays. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

[player_tooltip player_id='922251' first='Alivia' last='Knutson'] comes in at #9, and I really like the size and athleticism she brings to the setter position. Her length gives her an advantage when working with difficult passes, and she does a nice job getting the ball out to her hitters even when the play doesn't go as planned. What also catches my attention is how composed she stays when she serves and receives breaks. She doesn't seem to get rattled and continues looking for ways to keep her hitters involved. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

Closing out our Top 10 is [player_tooltip player_id='922256' first='Macey' last='Neumiller'], a setter who brings consistency and a competitive attitude to the court. One thing I like about her game is how she handles difficult passes and still finds a way to give her hitters a good ball to work with. She stays vocal on the court, communicates well with her teammates, and keeps her composure when things get tight. Neumiller is the kind of player who works hard, stays involved in every rally, and is someone her team can rely on. I like the foundation she's building and look forward to seeing how she continues to develop. ~Theresa@prepdigdakotas
