25 Juniors Running the Most Offense This High School Season
In this article:
Every offense runs through someone. Assist totals show which junior setters are touching the ball the most and turning it into scoring chances for their hitters. The list below ranks the state's top 25 juniors by total assists.
Totals tell part of the story. Assists per set tell the rest. Teams have played very different schedules, so some of the most productive setters in the class sit lower on the list simply because they've played fewer sets. Assist numbers also reflect team context: hitter quality, pace, and offensive system. Several athletes here carry dual position tags, which may point to hybrid roles or multi-setter systems.
Five juniors are averaging 9.0 or more assists per set, and the Top 25 stretches from Redding and Grass Valley to Oceanside and San Diego. Several of these setters are names PrepDig has followed since their freshman club seasons, and their numbers now are showing what that development looks like at the varsity level.
All statistics are sourced from MaxPreps and entered by coaches through the MaxPreps Team Admin system. Stats published as of October 9, 2026.

leads all juniors in assists, and she has done it across 102 sets, the heaviest workload in the Top 25. Her 7.9 per set has held up across that schedule, which points to durability and consistency over a long stretch of matches.
The assist total is only one part of her profile. As a sophomore, she posted 53 aces through her first 57 sets, and she describes herself as a six-rotation undersized setter who wins with speed. She also understands what she is looking for before the ball arrives. “I am most proud of the way I feel the blockers on the other side of the net, using this to choose who to set, allowing me to get one-on-ones.” She carries a 4.2 GPA and has worked on the mental side of the position. “The better I self-regulate, the better I can stay focused on the game ahead of me.”

Abby Boyan Abby Boyan OP CA ranks second in the class with 748 assists and backs it up with 8.4 per set. She is one of the few juniors who sits near the top in both total volume and per-set rate.
That balance matters. High totals can come from a busy schedule, but Boyan's per-set number shows the production is built into how Gridley runs its offense. She is setting at a pace that keeps her among the most productive juniors in the state.

She is also one of two Redding setters inside the top 10, a notable concentration of offensive production from the far north end of the state.

sits fourth in total assists while playing 27 fewer sets than the leader. At her current rate, she would close the 99-assist gap in roughly 11 sets. Early last season, she was averaging 9.0 per set. She is now at 9.5 over three times as many sets, a rate that has climbed as the workload has grown.
Gardenhire was the 2024 SYRL Rookie of the Year and runs a 5-1, where her stated goal has been to become a true sixth attacker on second contact. Her approach starts with communication. “I focused on using my voice as much as possible, especially while setting, to build quick connections and establish trust with my hitters.” As an athlete committed to Saint Louis, that trust shows up in her numbers.

has crossed 700 assists at 8.1 per set. Early last season, she was averaging 9.0 per set through 30 sets. She has now nearly tripled that set count while keeping her rate above 8.0, the kind of sustained production coaches look for when projecting a setter's reliability.
She plays club with Club 909, carries a 4.0 GPA, and was a two-time Player of the Game honoree as a sophomore. Her ability to spread the ball across multiple attackers continues to give Hesperia balance.

Her 659 assists rank sixth in the class. For coaches, a 100-set season as a junior means a large body of high school film to evaluate.

. She has 650 assists in 68 sets, and that 9.6 per set puts her in the top tier of the class.
Her game has been building toward this. This spring she was working on composure in high-pressure moments and organizing her team's second-ball decisions. At USAV Championships, she came back into action mid tournament and chased down plays other setters let go. She plays with an expression that doesn't change with the score, and she describes the court as her happy place, the spot where a calmer, steadier version of her takes over. Her summer focus was sharpening her placement and building chemistry with a new high school roster. The numbers suggest both are working.

is one of five juniors averaging 9.0 or more assists per set. Her number is meaningful because she has never been a setter who only distributes. She is a left-handed setter who looks to score through attacks, dumps, and blocks when she is front row.
She has spent the past year building into a full 5-1 role. “I really have been working on being a 5-1 setter and being able to block then be ready to set.” This summer, she was named Top Performing Setter at the SoCal StockUp Showcase and the LovbLA Queen Setter, and she continues to stand out for keeping her sets clean even when the pass is not. She also competes in softball and beach volleyball, adding athleticism to a game that is already difficult to defend.

has carried a heavy load for San Dieguito Academy, with 89 sets played and 473 assists.
When PrepDig featured her this summer, what stood out was how she thinks about the position. She approaches setting like a chess match, communicating with her hitters before the serve, disguising her intent, and reading blockers before release. She has also invested heavily in the mental side, believing a setter's ability to reset after mistakes shapes a whole team's confidence. That mindset matters over an 89-set season.

has been on the floor for 92 sets for one of the deepest programs in the country. On a loaded roster, per-set assist numbers often reflect how a team distributes the ball, so coaches should read her line alongside Mater Dei's system rather than in isolation.

Your stat line is one piece of your story, not the whole thing. Make sure the rest gets told. Ask your high school coach to keep your MaxPreps stats entered after every match, keep your PrepDig profile current, and keep getting your game in front of the coaches who need to see it. Assists only create visibility when people can find them.

Setters are built over years, not seasons. Many of the athletes on this list developed in club gyms long before they ran a varsity offense, and that work deserves to be recognized publicly.
