What a year for the 2030s.

We're always fascinated to see the freshman footprint in every high school season. New classes always present mysteries and trends to unravel, and the 2030s have given us plenty to ponder. Part 1 already discussed a handful of standouts, but we're back for more.

This ongoing series can be seen as a lead-in to our first Nebraska 2030 watch list. We won't have a ranked hierarchy yet, but we're compiling a long list of 2030s who have already made an impression at the varsity level. Then, the club season beckons, bringing us so many more names to know.

Malcolm boasts some of the best frontcourt firepower in Class C1, and the Clippers aren't afraid to draw from the freshman class, either. Wondercheck has joined the scoring onslaught en route to a 20-4 mark, establishing Malcolm as a surefire tournament contender. Some first-year players may struggle with putting away tough swings in out-of-system situations, but Wondercheck embraces the opportunity to be Malcolm's "clean-up" hitter on the left side. She's setting a high bar with nearly three kills per set in her debut season, but a state title is first on the agenda.

This is a perfect moment to check back in with Schneider, who has flourished since we saw her at the season-opening Bellevue West Invite. Her club tenure with River City Jrs has been the ideal prelude to more high-level competition on the Class A circuit. Schneider uses her quick, snappy approach to get her feet to the ball and deliver maximum power on the pin. The numbers have rolled in accordingly, with Schneider leading the Thunderbirds with 2.8 kills per set.

You know we had to draw from the small-town scene yet again. Hubel has been an extraordinary addition to the Chambers/Wheeler Central lineup, compiling about three kills per set to rank second on the Renegades' ledger. This is part of a wider youth movement for the program, with CWC's top two scorers coming from the 2030 ranks. Hubel's southpaw swing makes her a natural opposite, but the Renegades are never afraid to move their first-year terminator around the net. She'll get it done from anywhere.

We have room for another rural talent with huge potential at the left-side hitter spot. Sampson's fearless attitude has yielded nearly two kills per set during the Knights' ascent to a 19-6 record. The scariest part for Class C2 foes is that Sampson seems to grow more comfortable with increasing reps. She was outstanding during double-digit-kill performances against Lincoln Christian and Sterling, using her sharp crosscourt shot to freeze opposing defenders. That growth could be tested further as Elmwood-Murdock seeks its tournament return.

Expect to hear this name a little more often. Wolfe will be on our club radar with her VCNebraska crew, but her prep tenure with Meridian is commanding all the current attention. This is a classic lefty setter-opposite whose influence can span multiple positions in a single match. She has provided some of Meridian's best right-side swings this year, but Wolfe also anchors the team's ball control as a backcourt setter. Her constant triple-double threat has lifted the Mustangs to a 16-5 record and considerable gains in the Class D2 hierarchy.

Elba has been making some noise in a wild Class D2 race. The team's 15-8 record has been catalyzed by a unique medley of veterans and first-year athletes, with Morrow leading the way for the latter. Her efficient scoring output can be traced to her explosiveness off the floor and uncanny ability to read opposing blocks. It's easy to forget Morrow is just a freshman when she carves down the line or places a perfect roll shot in the campfire. Her highlight film has a little of everything, and she's developing as a backcourt weapon, too.
