Scouting Reports, Photos: Marion Wolves 2026

Connections are strong.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>That thought was the impetus behind developing these scouting-report/photo pieces a few seasons ago to act as yearbook pages. I've written as many of them as I could based on watching teams play in person. Hopefully, they capture that squad in words and pictures, and can be accessed years down the road.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Today, we look at Marion, who I watched compete at the Benton Bobcat Invitational earlier last month. The Class 4A Wolves have flashed their upside this season with victories against ranked Iowa City West and Valley. The sophomore generates plenty of power from the pin with a big vertical leap and heavy swing. She can hit small openings in the defense and get through or around blocks. Kirk is a precise passer from the back row, holding up very well in serve-receive and standing tall against the attack. Kirk has improved her blocking and can get on a roll as a server. Much of Marion's success is tied to her production, which is a good thing. She brings that quickness and agility to the volleyball court, shining through six rotations for the Wolves. In the first 24 matches, during which she started 23, the junior ranked second on the team in kills and third in digs. Dietz explodes off of the floor into a big vertical leap and generates power to terminate points from the pin. She impressed me when watching her do a little bit of everything for a club team that qualified for the USAV Nationals this summer in Indianapolis. That occurred again at the Benton tournament, where the junior was wearing the jersey. She's steadily improving in the back row and could have a college future there. I saw that when watching Mundorf compete at the Benton tournament last month. The Marion freshman looked comfortable lining up at the right-side pin. Mundorf took good swings when they were there and did well to adjust the attack to what the defense was doing. She jumps well and flashes promise as a blocker. Mundorf lists setter as her main position. She's a good athlete that benefits from leaping ability and hang time. It aids her in mixing up here attack and taking what the defense is giving up.
