Jaleaya was another Marion kid that I hadn’t seen play much until this season, and I was definitely missing out. Oliver has been such a fun kid to watch this season, not only because of her skill set, but also because of the energy she brings to the court every match. Although she is phenomenal in serve receive, it’s her defense that really draws you in. She reads extremely well, but her hustle plays are the highlights. That girl refuses to let any balls drop without her body hitting the ground first. And just when you think the rally is over, here she comes, making an outstanding play to keep her team alive. Oliver’s energy, grit, and passion have played such a huge role in the Wolves’ success this season, and I can’t wait to watch her continue to flourish.

This wasn’t our first encounter with Oliver this year. Her Adrenaline 16 Dan crew earned a runner-up finish at the Show Me Qualifier, battling in a Nebraska-Iowa border clash in the championship match. Sunday’s showcase added a lot to this libero’s scouting report, and Oliver was unflappable in the middle-back area. This is our serve-receive anchor on the all-showcase team.

Her quick first step allowed her to close seams efficiently, and she handled hard-driven attacks with control instead of simply keeping the ball alive. Oliver played an important role in helping Marion reach the state tournament last fall. The sophomore came up with 230 digs, starting all 42 of the Wolves’ matches and playing in 109 sets. She added 10 kills and 16 assists. After being impressed with her back-row work at the state tournament, Oliver stood out for her athleticism and explosion when I watched her competing with Adrenaline at the 2026 Mizuno Midwest JVA Challenge during. The squad finished fifth in the 16U Open Division with her holding it down in the back row but also getting in some swings at the outside pin. I wasn’t sure how it would go until seeing her explode off the court with a crazy vertical and a heavy swing. Oliver flashes the potential to play six rotations more often but, no matter what, her versatility is an asset for teams being able to plug her in at the position of need.

As a 5’5″ outside, she relies on smart shot placement and solid timing to stay competitive at the net. In the backcourt, she shows good instincts on defense, a steady platform in serve receive, and delivers consistently tough serves that keep opponents out of system. Whether swinging from the pin or covering on defense, Jaleaya plays with focus and hustle. A developing player with strong potential as she continues to grow her all-around game.~@prepdigdakotas
