The uber-gifted junior made herself at home during her team's annual home tournament, leading the Go-Hawks to a 4-1 record in the event, which included a win against a ranked 5A squad in Iowa City High. Djoumessi is a powerful force at the opposite pin. Her heavy left-handed swing terminates points with authority. She reads the defense well and works off of blocks. Her block is effective thanks to big bounce and long arms. Djoumessi is a prospect deserving of more attention from college volleyball programs even as a state champion wrestler with an incredibly high ceiling in that sport. Her sister wrestles at Iowa. Their father wrestled at Wartburg.

Waverly-Shell Rock is enjoying a resurgent season in 2026 by utilizing multi-sport athletes perhaps heading to college for something other than volleyball. Frazell stands out among that group as an accomplished basketball player. She's committed to Drake hoops and is poised for a super senior season on the hardwood this winter. Before that gets underway, Frazell is determined to lead the Go-Hawks to the state volleyball tournament as an impactful six-rotation outside hitter. After watching her in person earlier this month, I'm convinced she could play college volleyball. It's explosion off the court with a ton of velocity generated from the swing. She moves well and is technically sound around the court.

I hadn't seen Sundblad operate on the volleyball court until scouting the Waverly-Shell Rock Invite earlier this month. The junior setter was on point in leading a loud Go-Hawk attack. She was putting the ball on the money, where her attackers could tee off and terminate points at a high rate. Sundblad is a skilled player that contributes as an all-around player at the position. She defends well in the back row and holds up soundly in serve-receive. The junior lefty ends points with well-timed swings and setter dumps.

Gade saved her best for last, standing out as one of Waverly-Shell Rock's most potent producers on the attack as a senior this season. The Go-Hawks are capable of advancing to the state tournament thanks, in part, to her consistent contributions through six rotations. I was impressed with her heavy swing and smart decisions when watching her in person at this month's Waverly-Shell Rock Invite. She's athletic and strong with quickness that helps in defending at the net and in the back row.

Waverly-Shell Rock has enjoyed a resurgence this season thanks to a strong senior class with members playing their best volleyball. Wrage can be counted among that group as the team leader in blocks and an efficient attacker. She benefits from long arms and athleticism. Wrage explodes off of the court quickly and moves fluidly around it. She presents herself for the set and takes advantage when her number is called. She has a natural feel and efficiency in throwing up the block.

Waverly-Shell Rock catches your attention with its collection of loud and powerful attackers. The Go-Hawks get to that offense with sound transition defense out of the back row. That's where Pries comes in. The junior ranked second on the squad in digs entering the postseason. I scouted her at the team's home tournament earlier this month and saw a performer with a sound platform utilizing sharp technique in passing. Pries looked proficient in serve-receive and did well in communicating with teammates in making sure they were on the same page.

Waverly-Shell Rock Go-Hawks 2026. The high school volleyball years create wonderful life memories for everyone involved. Connections are strong.

That thought was the impetus behind developing these scouting-report/photo pieces a few seasons ago to act as yearbook pages. I've written as many of them as I could based on watching teams play in person. Hopefully, they capture that squad in words and pictures, and can be accessed years down the road.

Today, we look at Waverly-Shell Rock, who I watched compete earlier this month at their annual tournament. The 4A Go-Hawks defeated a ranked 5A squad in Iowa City High en route to a 4-1 record, tied for best at the event.

Here's a closer look at student-athletes standing out followed by photos of Waverly-Shell Rock:

Julia Sundblad

State: Iowa
School: Waverly-Shell Rock
Club: Iowa Elite VBC

I hadn't seen Sundblad operate on the volleyball court until scouting the Waverly-Shell Rock Invite earlier this month. The junior setter was on point in leading a loud Go-Hawk attack. She was putting the ball on the money, where her attackers could tee off and terminate points at a high rate. Sundblad is a skilled player that contributes as an all-around player at the position. She defends well in the back row and holds up soundly in serve-receive. The junior lefty ends points with well-timed swings and setter dumps.

Regan Pries

State: Iowa
School: Waverly-Shell Rock
Club: Iowa One Volleyball Club

Waverly-Shell Rock catches your attention with its collection of loud and powerful attackers. The Go-Hawks get to that offense with sound transition defense out of the back row. That's where Pries comes in. The junior ranked second on the squad in digs entering the postseason. I scouted her at the team's home tournament earlier this month and saw a performer with a sound platform utilizing sharp technique in passing. Pries looked proficient in serve-receive and did well in communicating with teammates in making sure they were on the same page.
