Welcome to the postseason. We've been slowly digesting the NSAA's long list of district and sub-district brackets. These groups set the final course for the final eight we'll see at Pinnacle Bank Arena in the first week of November. Formats vary by class, but the goal remains the same.

We just published a spotlight on Class A and B, both of which skip the sub-district round and go right to the all-deciding district finale. Of course, that feature only captured a small portion of the whole picture.

Let's complete the full classification ladder. Class C1, C2, D1, and D2 will embark on preliminary sub-district contests to lay out the final district seeding. Some of these sub-district brackets are seriously stacked, and we have some athletes to keep an eye on, too.

It'll be impossible to keep track of it all, but that won't stop us from trying.

We'll venture over to sub-district C1-4 to find an athlete who deserves a spot in our 2028 rankings. Korth has exhibited tremendous growth in her third season with Battle Creek, surpassing three kills per set and hovering around a 0.300 hitting efficiency. Postseason momentum appears to be building for this hard-hitting attacker, who is fresh off a 21-kill performance against Wayne. Fittingly, the Braves will reconvene with Wayne in the semifinals of sub-district play.

Ray is leading Oakland-Craig with over five kills per set this year, and we wouldn't expect anything less from this junior outside attacker. The "dual Ray" onslaught was a huge hit at last year's state tournament as O-C battled to the Class C2 semifinals. Even one Ray terminator is good enough to keep the Knights in postseason contention, and they'll look ahead to the C2-1 sub-district at Thayer Central.

Exeter-Milligan-Friend has enjoyed extraordinary success since consolidating under the Bobcat banner. Tuttle has been influential throughout much of that journey, and she has maintained her fluid control of the team's balanced offense. The 2028 signal-caller hovers around eight assists per set and has lifted the Bobcats to the No. 1 seed in the D1-3 bracket. A trip to Lincoln this November would be par for the course.

St. Paul has steadily climbed the Class C1 hierarchy for the past few seasons, and Platek is determined to take the Wildcats a step further. This dynamic sophomore pin hitter has gone through, around, and over opposing blockers en route to nearly three kills per set this fall. Platek's range stood out at South Central NE this spring, but the fall season has been her best yet. St. Paul will make the quick hop to Aurora High School with big upset aspirations in the C1-8 bracket.

Yutan's ascent to last year's state semifinals as a No. 8 seed is still fresh in our minds, and Frye used that breakout run to show us everything she's capable of. She was a reliable frontcourt hitter for the Chieftans last year, and Frye even helped run the offense in certain lineups. Year 2 has brought Frye's pin role to the forefront, upping her average to over two kills per set. However, we can't leave out Frye's growing influence as a backcourt defender and passing anchor. She's done it all in her underclassman tenure, so anything's possible for Yutan's journey through the C2-3 sub-district.

If this feature is about "stacked sub-districts," we have to bring up the D1-9 bracket. This group features defending champ Amherst, 28-1 Central Valley, and an experienced Ansley-Litchfield squad at the No. 3 seed. Ansley-Litchfield will not be an easy out in the semifinals, especially with Holm adding frontcourt firepower from the Class of 2029. She leads the Spartans in hitting efficiency and has anchored the blocking category by a wide margin. Not many prep teams get their physical center from the sophomore class, but Ansley-Litchfield is an important exception.

This feature has plenty of sophomore flair, so let's keep it going in Class D2. O'Neill St. Mary's has been vying for the class' top spot in the wildcard hierarchy this fall, and Ickes has a lot to do with it. This multi-position gem has been among Nebraska's top scorers from the sophomore class, logging 4.6 kills per set to pace the Cardinals' offense. She can pounce on quick tempos in front of the setter or use her range to carve angles on the outside. Hosting the D2-6 sub-district is a good start toward getting St. Mary's back to Lincoln for the first time since 2023.
