In case you missed it, our latest wave of Kansas rankings updates has begun. The 2027s are up first, and we have a lot of storylines to address regarding the state's rising seniors. Even steely veterans on the prep circuit can make late rises in the rankings hierarchy.

That's especially true for setters. It's a fascinating position group to scout, particularly when the seasons transition from high school to club. Many star setters carry part-time attacking roles during their prep careers, adding an extra wrinkle to our rankings deliberation.

But, regardless of these trends, Kansas' Class of 2027 is stacking exceptional talent at the setter spot. It's what we'd expect from the nation's heartland, and we have a few ascending stars to see as the dust settles from the club campaign.

Let's bring them out.

GJNC results had a lot to do with our decision to inch Cromer one spot higher in Kansas' coveted top five. Her KC Power 17-1 squad brought its best to club volleyball's biggest stage, earning a spot in 17 Open's final Gold bracket in Indianapolis. Cromer guided the operation with a blend of physicality and precision that made her a coveted prospect in the Class of 2027. Auburn pounced on the chance to land Cromer, who has flourished into an SEC-ready distributor. But, first, a title defense with Blue Valley West is high on the priority list.

We'll never hesitate to revisit our Iowa Clash champions. Manhattan Mayhem 17P's rise on the Prep Dig Circuit this February was a stark reminder of how much I still had to learn about the Kansas prep scene. Bott provided an early lesson on the outstanding setter depth in the Heart of America Region. Beyond her thrilling performances at our event, Bott guided her team to multiple bid-earning efforts and reached the final 17 USA bracket at USAV Nationals. Manhattan Mayhem got the job done wherever they traveled this year, and Bott played a major part in upholding those high standards.

Some of our most prominent 2027 stock risers and new additions come from the KS Rise camp. The club's top 17s unit piled up wins against HOA foes behind Rogers' leadership at the setter spot. The Circle senior has a crisp, natural jump set that freezes opposing middles in two-hitter lineups. Rogers also has a knack for establishing herself as a scoring threat on the second contact, adding further layers to her leadership. Circle High School brings back an athlete who averaged nine assists per set last fall and is playing her best volleyball in 2026.

KC Power is back at it again. Eickmeyer's climb escalated last fall when she earned valuable reps at St. Thomas Aquinas, a vaunted prep volleyball powerhouse. That experience primed Eickmeyer for the following spring season with KC Power 17-3, which made deep runs at MEQ and Windy City. Like most of the setters on this list, Eickmeyer is a well-rounded athlete who leaves no blocking deficits in front-row rotations. The upcoming fall season will allow Eickmeyer to square up against the state's top attackers once more.

PVA is another club with no shortage of eye-catching setters to watch. The club's 17s depth was a huge plus during the 2026 season, and Horner added to that narrative through her performances with PVA 17 National. Horner and her team earned multiple podium finishes on the qualifier circuit, from MEQ to the Salt Lake City Showdown. Her highlight tape is full of flashy sets against the grain, especially when operating three-hitter rotations. This also allows Horner to put her stamp on a match through gritty floor defense in the right-back area. Her fruitful club travels will serve her well at Shawnee Mission West, where Horner is poised to run the show as a featured upperclassman.

We have a good one staying in state at the next level. Gillespie is a Pittsburg State commit whose range and flexibility have made her a focal point of Goddard High School's success. But, similar to our discussion in the intro, Gillespie's influence is not limited to her ability to dish the ball. She was also Goddard's leading scorer last fall with 2.8 kills per set on a team-high hitting percentage. College recruiters love to see a setter who can square up at the net and be a takeover terminator when needed. Pittsburg State now knows that Gillespie can run the show around the dial and bring some of her own attacking prowess to the net.
