June came in like a lion and did not go out like a lamb. The month that brought us the first direct communication between the 2028 Class and college coaches resulted in a large swath of the group committing programs on the next level. While the frequency has slowed from the initial burst, student-athletes in the recruiting cycle continue to announce their future home. We've done our best to keep up.

Although a lot of talented kids are off the board, really good players remain available to colleges. Here's a closer look at some of them:

Dirks is a prospect that mixes current production with notable upside. She contributed 71 kills in 86 sets as a North Polk sophomore in 2025. Her 66.0 blocks ranked second on the team. In watching her throughout this club campaign for PowerPlex, Dirks displayed advanced skills as a blocker. Tall with long arms, she contorts her body around the net and meets the ball at the point of attack. Dirks is adept at keeping the ball on the other side of the net and using the opponents' power against them. The potential rests in adding heaviness to her swing with increased strength. When that comes together, look out.

One of the more frustrating developments of the club campaign was missing Salty on the circuit. Chalk it up to bad timing. De Jager was one of the athletes I most wanted to watch after seeing her thrive with Western Christian at last fall's state tournament. As a sophomore, she finished the season with 229 kills with 152 digs and 31.0 blocks. In lieu of live scouting, I hunted down club video to see the strides she's made. A strong overall volleyball player with an ability to impact matches in various ways, De Jager sharpened her skills and technique leading to greater consistency. It's already a big swing with potential for plenty more.

It's been entertaining watching Niggemeyer develop her game during the last year or so. Power and intimidation have been a big part of the package for a while. When scouting her this club season with PowerPlex, the Dowling Catholic middle hitter continued to refine her game. On the attack, she's seeing the court better and exposing weak areas of the defense. Niggemeyer is understanding angles and technique in blocking, leading to greater efficiency in the endeavor. With more room to develop and become stronger, she offers significant upside to colleges making a worthwhile investment in her.

A coach's kid, Rinehart maximizes her talent and limits mistakes. She's fundamentally sound in patrolling the back row, covering a whole lot of court thanks to keen instincts, preparation, sharp reflexes and lateral quickness. Rinehart contributed all around the court for a Centennial team reaching its first state title match last year. She was locking down on defense and in serve-receive when scouting her with Iowa United this club campaign. Rinehart is currently a "buy-low" prospect for colleges. She still hasn't completely broken out as a player. That's coming this fall and will continue into the next club season.

I first scouted Young in person early in her freshman season of 2024 at Lewis Central. I left the gym impressed as I did once again after seeing her play in person as a sophomore last year. She proved to be a steady performer that reached a lot of chances on the court. Young provided pin-point passes on many balls she dig up and did well in just keeping a lot of others in play. It's the type of back-row skill set that gives her teams the most opportunities to end points. Solid in serve-receive, Young communicates well with teammates to make sure responsibilities are covered. She's worthy of more attention along the recruiting trail.
