Rob Howe | Prep Dig Scout
I first scouted Young in person during the Iowa City High tournament early in the 2024 season, her freshman campaign. She performed like a veteran. When I watched her again at the same tournament on Sept. 6, Young had taken her game up to another level. She’d come up with a team-best 110 digs through the team’s first 11 matches. Young faced plenty of strong attacks at City High and consistently answered the challenge. She moves well laterally with sharp reflexes. Young maximizes her natural gifts by understanding the game and what opponents are trying to do on the attack. She’s sound in serve-receive, getting a good read on the ball and acting quickly. With almost three years of high school ball and plenty of club remaining, Young is a prospect of considerable note.

Young burst on the scene with an impressive 336 digs, which ranked seventh among the state’s freshmen. She did not play like someone seeing her first varsity action. Young confidently walled up on the back row, looking strong in serve-receive and in digging out pace. She consistently delivers precise passes, too.

When you’re talking top players in the state’s freshman class, Young deserves to be in the conversation. She plays well beyond her years at a demanding position. You wouldn’t guess she’s a ninth-grader watching her operate in the back row. She moves well laterally and displays good form in getting low. She passes well out of serve-receive and when digging out pace from opponents. Young has a bright future.

Those who follow Nebraska’s club volleyball scene are no stranger to Lewis Central High School, which lies across the Missouri River in Council Bluffs. This program churns out a ton of volleyball talent and will soon bring Young into the mix. Young competes with SWI Third Degree on the club trail and flashed a ton of potential alongside her Nebraska peers. Her ball-control prowess will have her in the mix for early playing time with the Titans this fall.
