Freshman First Impressions: Setter Edition

Kicking off the first Texas Prep Dig Showcase this summer with the Freshman Showcase in Carrollton, Texas. Where North Texas athletes put on a great performance. There was lots to see so stick around for more to come!   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Coach Faith's First Impression</h2>    [player_tooltip player_id='911285' first='Josie' last='Schoening'], freshman setter out of Grapevine High School, a hustle queen. Any ball is playable with Josie on the court. Her reaction and all-out effort for every play is a key to her standout play. She is consistent in her transitions, clearly committed to her training and does not hesitate to recover a chaos ball. Josie has a remarkable ability to create a playable contact with whatever ball the play gives her. As a setter a key quality is adaptability, and [player_tooltip player_id='911285' first='Josie' last='Schoening'], no doubt, brings that to the table.     [player_tooltip player_id='980967' first='Liel' last='Elhadad'], Freshmen setter from Liberty High, talk about precision. She brings a clean and consistent tempo to the floor with a very small margin for error. Her attention to detail is at the forefront of her game, always making the effort to get set around the ball and meet the ball in the air for a clean release. Her hustle, effort, and tempo are only the beginning of her play as she pushes those on the court alongside her to another level. Liel plays with a confidence that demands to met by those around her, a true leader from the setter position to keep an eye on in seasons to come.     [player_tooltip player_id='984215' first='Victoria' last='Monterroso'], a textbook freshman setter out of Aledo, that runs a fundamental game from the right back. A technical setter, that does the little things right to ensure the play is better when the ball leaves her hands. She does well keeping the ball in front of her and being aware of her hitters at all times. Her ability to create plays does not stop at the setter position as she has an equally consistent swing from the right side pin. Putting herself in place to stay on the court all game long, Victoria is a player that is going to elevate play and chase the point whenever she is on the court.     [player_tooltip player_id='996864' first='Elyana' last='Segura'], a 5'4 freshman setter from Forney High School, that does not let her size get in her way of being seen. Her footwork and transition throughout play is effortless and efficient. Quickly making adjustments to the play and trusting her ability to read the ball and deliver a hittable set. Her tempo is clean and effective with hitters that communicate with her, she does not hesitate to adapt to those around her in order to make the next ball better. Elyana is fierce when it comes to doing her job and has clearly earned the trust of teammates to carry it out. She hustles, communicates, and above all else, she delivers.     [player_tooltip player_id='993992' first='Elley' last='Newsom'], define an energetic setter!? Freshman out of Byron Nelson that is all out play when she is on the court. She is going to do whatever it takes to keep the play alive, keeping every ball in sight and always making the effort to get her hands on the ball. Her hustle and energy fuel those around her and elevate the momentum on her side of the court. She is going to run a fast game and push her hitters to swing big. There are three things for certain about Elley; she is going to communicate, she will hustle to every ball, and she will bring the energy to every game.
