MN Stock Risers: Showcase Names to Know

Sometimes it is a player I have watched before who shows a new part of their game and other times it is someone who is just starting to get on my radar. Either way, those are the players who leave me walking away thinking, "I need to keep tabs on her."</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Minnesota Stock Up Showcase had plenty of those moments. Throughout the day, there were athletes who stood out with their competitiveness, athleticism, and the way they impacted the game. Some showed growth, some showed versatility, and some showed that they can compete at a high level of play. I have primarily only seen her play as a right back DS, so it was fun to watch her step into the setter role. She looked comfortable running the offense, consistently put the ball in good locations with a nice, repeatable tempo. She did a great job giving her hitters quality opportunities to attack and it was clear she has the hands and court awareness to be effective in more than one position. At the showcase, what stood out right away was how smart she is on the court. She reads the block well. Instead of trying to force the ball, she will hit around the block or will change up her shots. Her arm is quick, so the second she spots an opening in the block or an empty spot on the court, she will take advantage of it. She gets off the net quickly in transition, gets her feet to the ball quickly, and has a quick, explosive arm swing. Her versatility is another thing that makes her so valuable. She was solid running different routes as a middle and at the same time, she's athletic enough to move out to the pin and be effective there as well. While she may not be the tallest attacker on the court, she plays much bigger than her size. She plays with no fear, has a big swing, and competes 110% on every rally. What I liked most though, was how smart she is with her shot selection. She knows when to hammer that big swing, when to change speeds, and how to find open spots on the court which makes her a tough player to slow down at the showcase.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:acf/evaluation-block {"name":"acf/evaluation-block","data":{"player_evaluations_0_player":["1003707"],"_player_evaluations_0_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations":1,"_player_evaluations":"field_62aba7547dc44"},"mode":"preview","alignText":"left","anchor":"acf-block-6a73ff0c86fe9"} --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"placeholder":"Add evaluation here...","className":"text-gray-700"} --> <p class="text-gray-700">Porisch was another pin hitter who caught my eye with her big swing. Combine that with the fact that she can swing from either pin and you have a player that any coach would love to have on their team (I know I would). I like the fact also that she is equally terminal in both down the line and cross shots. She was making it tough for defenders at the showcase as they could never settle in and pinpoint exactly where she was going to go. At a showcase, that is not always easy since the hitters are working with setters they have never played with before but Moore didn't seem like she needed much time to adjust. Once she got going, she was a lot of fun to watch. She attacked the seam well, used the block to her advantage, and did a nice job finding open spots instead of just swinging as hard as she could every time. Her crafty swing and smart decision making helped her stand out throughout the showcase.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
