Superb Setters in the 2028 Rankings Update

2028 is a packed class of setters; two have already committed to Division 1 programs, and there may be more to come. The NCAA's new five-year eligibility rules could affect this class nationwide. This group faces the first full wave, with seniors staying longer, increased grad transfers in the portal, and coaches knowing ahead of time that they can rely on more experienced players to fill out their rosters. We hope that the setters in this class find their fit, at whatever level works best for them. Find a spot and get on the court; the four (five) years go faster than you think!   <ol class="wp-block-list"> <li>[player_tooltip player_id='603010' first='Tristyn' last='Ervin'] | 5'10"| Iowa State Verbal Commit. #3 Overall. Ervin has put in the hard work on the court, in the weight room, and on the recruiting trail, and moves up to the third overall spot in the rankings. Iowa State is a highly successful program in the very tough Big 12 Conference. Coach Christy Johnson Lynch is headed into her 22nd year as the program's leader, and the team just opened an incredible new volleyball-only facility, the McKee Volleyball Center. Ervin is an excellent athlete who can put the ball wherever it needs to go and has found her fit at an institution that cares about and supports its Women's Volleyball team.</li> </ol>   2. [player_tooltip player_id='727388' first='Ava' last='Burton'] | 5'11" | Long Beach State Verbal Commit. #6 Overall. Long Beach State is getting a fierce competitor with excellent length in the Stanwood High School prospect. Burton is an offensive-minded setter who can get even more physical; she will have an opportunity to be a force in the Big West   3. [player_tooltip player_id='662553' first='Izzie' last='Stephan'] | 6'0" | #10 Overall. Stephan competed with CRU during the club season; she has length, skill, and an athletic pedigree with older sister Rian playing at the UW.   4. [player_tooltip player_id='745599' first='Kennedy' last='Guinn'] | 6'0| #13 Overall. The Puyallup setter is long, with terrific set location. She still has room to grow and develop her physicality- Guinn is a player with a high ceiling and ideal size at the next level.    Roberts is one of the better dual-threat setter/attackers in the class. The Lewis & Clark prospect has a strong arm and power that translates into stinging kills and fast-tempo sets that stretch defenses pin to pin. Roberts is a positive leader on the court, and she improves the play of the team around her. Lewis & Clark plays in the Greater Spokane League, and behind Roberts and several other talented players, the team is on the upswing. We expect the Tigers to compete with the perennial powers in the GSL and MCC this season.     Lefty setter Pasi can turn on a tight pass when she is in the front row and deliver a crushing kill. She moves smoothly when preparing to set; Pasi is consistent with her footwork but creative when she has to make an emergency move and find an attacker off-balance or on the run. With Dakine, she also swung as a right-side and was very effective as a scorer and a blocker- competing hard at 5'8" against oftentimes bigger blockers. Her Central Kitsap squad will be looking to improve on their 6th-place finish at the state tournament last season. Pasi will be a force for the team along with 9 other returners for the Cougars.     Box is a dynamic player with outstanding energy and enthusiasm as both a setter and an attacker. She played on the pin and at setter for Space Needle during the club season, moving the ball around to a talented group of hitters and using her excellent vertical and strong arm to score on the pins. Box checks in as the #57 overall player in the 2028 Rankings Update, and will be a big part of the Glacier Peak squad this fall.     We have had a great chance to evaluate Wallace during the club season; the 2028 prospect from RA Long High School moves up to #89 overall in the class. The OJVA setter doesn't waste movement; she is precise in her footwork and decisive in her setting choices and has soft hands even when she has to run hard to reach the second ball. Wallace plays with an upbeat attitude and supports the players around her; her skills and intangibles are a major reason for her rise in the rankings.
