First we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
The east portion of the 1B Southeast District is arguably the best in the division having among its six high schools Pomeroy and Oaksdale, last year’s finalists of the entire class, and some of their players with the greatest upside are:
Gianna Anderson – Outside Hitter – Sophomore – Oaksdale
Gianna Anderson certainly didn’t look like a freshman last season, when she helped Oaksdale advance all the way to the State Championship final. The 5’7” outside hitter had strong performances for the Nighthawks all-season long and didn’t slow down in the final, registering 24 kills and 32 digs against Pomeroy. Her first impression took her to the All-State and All-League first teams and the most likely is she’s just going to get better.
Ashlynn Archer – Middle-Blocker – Junior – St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse
Ashlynn Archer’s strong performance was the best news in St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse’s campaign last year with the Eagles finished the season with a 6-6 win record in the district. The towering 6’3” middle-blocker used her size to be a factor at the net for her team, registering team-high 265 kills and 58 blocks. She was also the team’s best server with 36 aces and, surprisingly, its second-best defender (179) and passer (284). Archer received an All-State team honorable mention and was included in the All-League first team for her play.
Rylee Vining – Setter – Senior – Colton
Rylee Vining was a solid contributor to Colton last year from her starting setter position. The 5’3” prospect facilitated the team’s offense with 375 assists, averaging 6.7 per set, and also contributed in other areas of the game leading the Wildcats in aces (36) and ranking fourth in digs (180). Her performance was rewarded with an All-State team honorable mention and an All-League first-team selection.
