It is a huge honor for any volleyball player to be recognized by AVCA and to be put on their phenom list is an even bigger honor.

“…Recognizing the top underclassmen athletes in the country. The requirements for having an athlete on the AVCA Phenom List are: The student-athlete must be an underclassman who has been recognized in some form for her outstanding volleyball abilities (All-Region, All-State, PVB Watchlist, USAV HP team, etc.) AND the student-athlete’s high school head coach, club coach, or club director must be an active AVCA member.”

Washington was fortunate enough to have twenty-four athletes from the class of 2024, 2023, and 2022 recognized.

Below are six athletes from the class of 2022:
[caption id="attachment_109101" align="alignleft" width="150"] Photo: Cole Petters[/caption]
[player_tooltip player_id="97286" first="Emmy" last="Hansen"], 5’11”, OH/RS, Camas High School, Oregon Juniors Volleyball Academy

Hansen had a successful sophomore season for the Camas High School Papermakers, who finished first in league and seventh in the 4A State tournament. As a Varsity returner, she was able to make an impact on the outside. She received the Coaches Award for the Papermakers in 2019. An incredibly athletic attacker, she can step into any position in the front row. Originally a middle blocker, she has transitioned to an outside hitter given her high vertical and great court awareness. When in the middle she moves very well laterally and is able to get to the pins to close the block. A fast learner and incredibly coachable, she has made significant improvements to her game in just a couple of seasons. She will be playing for Oregon Juniors Volleyball Academy this coming club season.
[caption id="attachment_120177" align="alignleft" width="150"] Photo: Excel NW[/caption]
[player_tooltip player_id="97219" first="Kendall" last="Clark"], 6’1”, MB, Columbia High School, Excel NW Volleyball Club

Clark had another solid season for the Columbia High School Bruins as one of their key attackers and impact players. She received Trico 1A Honorable Mention All-League her sophomore and freshman seasons. For her high school, she plays on the outside given her powerful attack, and good ball control. However, during club season she plays on either the middle or right side. She is incredibly quick and puts up a really strong block. This upcoming club season she is going to be competing with Excel 18-1 Rox.
[caption id="attachment_120178" align="alignleft" width="150"] Photo: Cole Petters[/caption]
[player_tooltip player_id="97213" first="Rylie" last="Reeves"], 5’11”, OH, Columbia River High School, Excel NW Volleyball Club

Reeves had a standout high school season, helping Columbia River High School finish seventh in the 2A State tournament. Being the only freshman to make Varsity her first year, she came back this past season with a vengeance. She has totaled up 1187 swings, hitting an average of .225, over just two seasons. This past season she was awarded Second Team Greater St. Helens 2A All-League. Her outside attack is coupled with many different angles and shots, making her unpredictable for blockers. While her sharp angle cross-court shot has proved deadly for her opponents, she also has a great line swing when the block is taking her cross. She is also an impressive defender, with consistent passing on both defense and serve receive. Never afraid to step into pass the ball, she helps her team stay as in-system as possible. This upcoming club season she is going to be competing with Excel 18-1 Rox.

Amey Rainaud-Hinds, 5’6”, S, Burlington-Edison High School

Rainaud-Hinds had another solid season for the Burlington-Edison High School Tigers, running their offense as their starting setter. She was a key player for the Tigers and helped them finish fourth in the division last season. Last season she racked up 921 assists, 297 digs, 67 aces and 45 kills. For her play she was awarded All-Northwest Second Team All-League as a freshman, and All-Northwest First Team All-League as a sophomore. She was also awarded Class 2A Second Team All-State as a freshman and sophomore. She was the only freshman selected to make an All-State team in 2018. A bit undersized for a setter, what she lacks in height she makes up for in athleticism. Instead of playing club volleyball, she was on the varsity basketball team for the Tigers.

Reaghan Naboychik, 5’8”, RS, Ellensburg High School, Central Region United

Nabouchik had a breakout sophomore season for the Ellensburg High School Bulldogs, helping them go undefeated in league play and advance to the 2A State finals, falling to Ridgefield High School in a tough match. Nabouchik saw significant playing time on the outside, alongside Abby Harrell. She is lethal, racking up 444 kills in just two seasons. She was awarded WIAA Week 11 Athlete of the Week as well as a second-team selection. During club season, she is often seen playing on the right side given her strong block. Last club season she played for Central Region United on their 16-1 team.

Ashley Boswell, 6’1”, OH/MB, Freeman High School, CPA Xtreme

Boswell had an impressive sophomore season with the Freeman High School Scotties, helping them secure a fourth place finish at the 1A State tournament. Although trained as a middle blocker, she transitioned to an outside attacker for the Scotties. Incredibly versatile, she had no problem fulfilling a new role for her team. For her play, she was awarded Northeast 1A First Team All-League and All-State Honorable Mention. This past club season she played for CPA Xtreme on their 16-1 Elite team.
