However, we know one of the reasons why many of you follow high school volleyball is to try and anticipate which prospects have what it takes to succeed at the collegiate level and beyond. So, in this series, we’ll share our best guesses and list the top student-athletes from each of the next three graduating classes in each State district.
Next in line is the 1A Emerald Sound district and our picks are:
Class of 2021
Noelle Alberda – Middle-Blocker – King’s
Noelle Alberda was among King’s best offensive options in 2019 and her steadiness at the center of the net helped the Knights advance all the way to the State Championship final. The six-foot middle-blocker has quick feet and a heavy arm, a combination that almost inevitably leads to success for players of her position. It’s clear from watching Alberda play that she never holds anything back and that mentality should take her a long way. She received an All-State second-team nomination last year for her great performance.
Class of 2022
Diya Mishra –Middle-Blocker/Outside Hitter – Overlake
Able to play as either a middle-blocker or an outside hitter, Diya Mishra was mostly used in the former role last year with Overlake. And the decision proved right considering her strong performances throughout the season, which saw the 5’11” Mishra use all of her tools at the net to produce 132 kills and a team-high 26 blocks. Her serving was also lights out with 63 aces and her 39 digs and 101 passes were both certainly beyond what many would expect from a middle-blocker. Her solid game led her to be an All-League first-team selection and to receive an All-State team honorable mention.
Class of 2023
Ryma Patil – Libero – Overlake
Ryma Patil was one of the three freshmen Overlake added to its roster ahead of the 2019 season and her integration to the Owls was seamless. The 5’4” defender quickly found her spot with the team and provided a great contribution to Overlake’s State Championship run with her strong defensive game. Patil led her team in both digs (53) and passes (264) and made of the Owls one of the toughest teams to score at in the district, being rewarded with an All-State team honorable mention and an All-League second-team selection.
