However, we know one of the reasons why many of you follow high school volleyball is to try and anticipate which prospects have what it takes to succeed at the collegiate level and beyond. So, in this series, we’ll share our best guesses and list the top student-athletes from each of the next three graduating classes in each State district.
The Cascade portion of the North Puget Sound district features high schools from both the 3A and 4A classes and here are our selections in the region:
Class of 2021
Asia Stewart – Middle-Blocker – Federal Way
Middle-blockers are expected to hit the ball hard and seal the net when blocking and Asia Stewart does not disappoint in either of these categories. The 6’1” Federal Way prospect has a strong game at the net and has used it to the benefit of her throughout her high school career. Stewart is athletic, very explosive and has a good reading of the game, which helps her on both sides of the ball. She made a huge impact on the Eagles’ campaign last season.
Class of 2022
Krisee Copeland – Middle-Blocker – Auburn Riverside
Kristeen ‘Krisee’ Copeland was an important part of Auburn Riverside’s team that competed at last year’s State Championship. The 6’1” middle-blocker is very active at the net, using her size and great coordination to dominate the space. Her offensive game is relatively simple, but extremely dependable and that’s exactly what you look for on a middle-blocker. Her contributions to the Ravens took her to the All-State second team in 2019.
Class of 2023
Lana Cory – Libero/Defensive Specialist – Jefferson
The 2019 season was a difficult one for freshmen in the district as not many of them got to see the court for their teams. Lana Cory, for example, played in just 13 of Jefferson’s 38 sets, but she posted some promising numbers, most notably her 12 digs (to a team’s fourth-best average of 0.9 per set) and 31 passes. Those skills combined with her leader profile and her determination to work hard should prove to be a combination good enough to take her to good places as her career progresses.
